"What was the first "up in the club" song?"

A song explicitly set in the club and praises the glories of being up in the club.

What's pre- "Big Poppa"?

Specifically using the word "club", the action of the song taking place in the club, let's say modern rap or r&b song.

Is there a song that pre-dates Big Poppa that fits this narrow specific definition of a club song.

I know folks will accuse me of narrowly defining inorder to get the result I want, but I really want to find the song that gave birth to all these in da club songs we hear right now (if there is one song we can point to).

Sure, people went to clubs, but they went to dance to bands and see showgirls and shit. The first in the club song has to be a disco era track.

All of the hallmarks one associates with club culture were in place or emergent at that time (late 60's - early 70's)

Or "up in the jook joint" or "up in the waltz salon".

It was clear to me that meant club in the modern sense of what that means.

People went to that third place between home and work.

For some people it's church. For everyone else it's ths club.

Whether the club as a speakeasy, bar, juke joint or whatever...serves the same purpose

A place you can go and relax, listen to music, get drunk and hopefully laid.

Prolly been around since the caveman days

Because then the question is why did the terminology "club" become dominant? It probably wasn't random, and that lack of randomness points to a difference in the significance of the word from whatever its significance was previously.

So Daughter Maitland signing at the Onyx on the Boardwalk is not the same as Cam'rom dropping a few bars live at Dream in 2002.

i thought this was a "lord, these children!" post
where we try to pinpoint the moment where folks started
making songs about hitting dance spots to smoke, drink, get high, and get laid.

but ppl have been making songs about those spots
since those spots have existed....

which is forever.

ppl responded with old songs to show
that partying in the freak spot is just something that
kids have been sing about since songs were a thing.

ever since recorded nusic has been a thing that exists.

i cannot pinpoint the song where folks started calling

It's basically "In Da Club" in 1972.

I'm no longer trying to answer the question at hand... LOL. Just thinking about venue specific partying in a hip-hop context.

39. "There were some 'going to the club' songs during the first hip-house era"
In response to Reply # 0

That period when hip-hop acts were experimenting with putting one house track on the album. It was interesting because these were not "up in the club" songs in the modern sense. They didn't have the sense of... majesty that you get from "Big Poppa" and all that, like sitting in VIP waving flutes of champagne in the air.

The hip-hoppers almost treated "the club" like a foreign territory in which they were bemused tourists.
