Not to dispute it's 'classic' status or greatness. Just personal taste. 'Ready To Die' didn't hit me the same way it hit others.

too long

not cohesive

subpar/outdated production

one sided subject matter which tended to glorify rather than analyze

but Biggie was a very charismatic guy...asshole, sure...but charismatic & great at rapping

I agree that it was a tad too long but name the tracks that are sub-par or had outdated production.

As BIG said "Mo Bee got beats!" He knew it and Pac knew it. He wasn't the problem with that album.

Biggie was on fire, of course, but he at best just matches Nas on that end; meanwhile, Puffy's ragtag team dig a good job, especially Mo Bee, but it ain't exactly Pete/Premier-in-their-prime good.

if it wasn't apparent, I prefer Illmatic.

But I don't think RTD is a bad album. Of "mainstream/popular" MCs, Biggie might be one of my favorites because despite some of the production he was on, he really had a "head's" sensibility.

I "believe" him more than I do a Jay-Z, for example.

bc RtD didn't really have this specific lineup of A grade producers, LAD did in a mainstream sense (while still having the Primo joints for heads)

Intro
Things Done Changed
Machine Gun Funk
Warning
Ready to Die
The What (feat. Meth)
Everyday Struggle
Me & My Bitch
Unbelievable
Suicidal Thoughts

Sure it wouldn't be the multi-platinum juggernaut it ended up being but my version is far superior IMO.

add juicy and one more chance remix as bonus tracks and you have a 12 song juggernaut.

Asking this about other classic albums to see if we feel any would then top Illmatic.

1 Things Done Changed
2 Machine Gun Funk
3 Juicy (Pete Rock version)
4 Warning
5 Ready To Die
6 Unbelievable
7 The What
8 Big Poppa
9 Everyday Struggle
10 Suicidal Thoughts

In response to Reply # 17

It was the first version of the album that Bad Boy release on vinyl. I'm assuming it to save costs on pressing up a double LP.

Anywho, the tracklist was:

Side 1:
Juicy
Gimme the Loot
Machine Gun Funk
Warning

Side 2:
Unbelievable
The What
Respect
One More Chance
Big Poppa

http://www.discogs.com/Notorious-BIG-The-Ready-To-Die/release/317356

As an aside, I don't think that the album needs to be trimmed to ten cuts to be great. Shoot, I still think "Dreams" and "C'mon Motherfuckas" should have been the album. Replacing the not-so-good cuts with better ones would have been an improvment.
