"At 9:50pm (Houston,TX time), September 12, 2014, Joe Sample passed. His wife Yolanda and his son Nicklas would like to thank all of you, his fans and friends, for your prayers and support during this trying time. Please know that Joe was aware and very appreciative of all of your prayers, comments, letters/cards and well wishes."
Rest in peace Mr. Sample. There aren't enough words to type that can accurately describe how much The Crusaders mean to me. I wasn't expecting to log on tonight and see this. "Southern Comfort" was the first album I inherited from them as a shorty. I fell in love as soon as I dropped the needle on "Stomp And Buck Dance". Man....

Joe sample was one out of five of my favorite pianist and a great one at that, from grand piano to the rhodes the man knew how to lay it down but always was so smooth.
From Jazz Crusaders to Crusaders to L.A. Express (with Tom Scoot) to his solo works & collaborations Joe Sample was a just amazing & played his part, I remember getting my hands on a 12inch where The Roots did a live version of "Proceed Pt.2" with Joe Sample & Phil Woods, amazing just amazing.
When I started getting into listening to jazz & digging I didn't even realize that Joe Sample & The Cruasaders was already in my collection and started listening to them critically and couldn't get enough, now it's like the ground floor must have in my collection even if I already own 1 to 2 copies on vinyl.
Rest in peace Joseph Leslie Sample you music will live on forever!
