"MJ OFF THE WALL (DEMO) where is Jay Wonder"

https://soundcloud.com/mj-rare-mjunreleased/off-the-wall-demo

I've been looking for this song for several years(had it on old computer which crashed).

I actually enjoy this version better than the one used maybe because its more disco or the breakdown at the end is longer either way this is one of my favorite MJ songs ever.

you welcome

You want the stems from the demo? We already got the stems from the REAL record. lol. That's some micro-digging there. Stems of the demo. Have you tried remixing any of the OTW tracks though? You can get more than the stems.....each individual track. Jay Wonder posted it awhile back and it's easy to find currently.

That this is just the stems unmixed and played with all tracks up....based on the title
Hence the request
Also...I didn't see OTW stems when Bro J made the post.
I'll go on a hunt today.
The last OTW stems I found were Rock With You.

Pretty sure this comes from a completely different session than the official 'OTW'. Like, they had this version....and then completely redid everything for the official version.

I think we're having a semantical misunderstanding of 'demo' and 'stems'. A demo isn't just an unmixed track. It's the initial recording of song which is meant to be completely re-recorded in the future. And 'stems' aren't the individual tracks (ie guitar mic, snare mic, hihat mic). Stems are the sub-groups of a session. So having the stems of OTW would mean something like 4 or 5 different two-channel mixes. The drums stem. The vocals stem. The keys/guitars/bass stem. So you can't really do much mixing by simply having the stems. You need the individual tracks. I suppose the term 'stems' might be less specific than my understanding but I don't think so.

In anycase....yah, You can get all the original tracks of OTW. Ie the hihat, the snare, the kick, guitar 1, guitar 2, lead vocal, harmonies etc. I'll see if I can find a link for you. And that shit is FUN as hell. There really should be a way of legitimizing a niche market for that. I think Trent Reznor has officially released his multi-tracks on some releases. Most of the stuff available on the internet is obviously done subversively/illegally. Around 10 years ago there was a download package that had the multi-track files of a bunch of artists....Nirvana, Marvin Gaye, Doobie Brothers, Bob Marley. That was the first time I saw something like that and it was a revelation for me. I would pay BIG money to have access to that.

A business model is needed though. Something like $15 for the record.....$40 for the multi-tracks. And then...for people who don't make music....someone could design a really user-friendly program aimed at beginners to plop the multi-tracks into. I mean, even casual music fans would have a lot of fun messing around with their favorite songs. Not even so much on a mixing level.....moreso re-arranging. "I want just the bass and drums on verse 1....then add in the guitars and strings on verse 2....then just the conga and voice on verse 3" type of stuff.

I must be in bizarro world.

a cat is basically gonna give out all his hard work... every kick snare high hat bass synth piano lead hiccup for niggas to sample for $40??? lol

niggas pay that for a single breakbeat record. sometimes 20x that or more lol

I think the multitracks are a violation. People don't have any business with access to that. you couldn't get Annie Leibovitz negatives? you can't get the formula for coke.

niggas don't respect musicians at all. just because everybody loves music they feel entitled

I'm not suggesting this in the sampling world context. About 99% of the music world doesn't even care about the repercussions of sampling. One would still need permission to sample. If anything, it might RAISE whatever they currently steal from musical acts that sample.

>niggas pay that for a single breakbeat record. sometimes 20x
>that or more lol

Again. You're talking about an extremely small niche pocket of the industry. People wouldn't have to spend that money anymore.

>I think the multitracks are a violation. People don't have any

>negatives? you can't get the formula for coke.

This is only the perspective of a hip hop producer. There are no actual session-players that are terrified they're track might be sampled by another producer. In fact...it's a boon for them whether they know it or not. Not sure why this is so scary and outrageous to you. Current property-rights laws still apply.

>niggas don't respect musicians at all. just because everybody
>loves music they feel entitled

Yah....no.

this dont have anything to do with sampling. you think a photographer will give you access to their negatives? is coke gonna give you their formula? like this is just STUPID

my point is... dudes spend millions of dollars recording these records... and they are gonna turn all the work over for $20 a pop. its FUCKING STUPID. only a NON creator would ever think it was a good idea.

lol. you've talked to every session player? you must be young. because when cats started pressing CDs a lot musicians and industry heads was like wait..."were selling perfect copies of our masters...are we sure we want to do this?" you are talking about opening up the master MULTITRACK tapes to everybody. some musicians try to stop people from even releasing COVERS of their songs. you think Prince wants to open up his multi tracks so that When doves Cry can be mashed up with the macarena?? i think what's amazing about hearing this is you can hear
what they decided to take OUT of the track.

because this track doesn't sound bad.
the fact that they kept going, knowing they could have a better one
if they removed some stuff is what's amazing to me.

I love the bridge. I do think the song obviously needed to be shortened, tightened up a bit and the vocals needed to be a little more refined but I think the horns, the drums and the guitar sound so much more funky on the demo. So they definitely improved the final track, but they did lose something as well.

I'm guessing Quincy wanted to rein that in. But the drumming is a lot freer (or less-disciplined depending on your viewpoint) on the demo. More fills and a lot more accents on the kick.

he has the multitracks and did this version. It's a great mix

kinda on topic (since it's Off The Wall related), Michael's assistant engineer Brad Sundberg does a seminar called "In The Studio with MJ" and during the seminar he plays the studio demo of I Can't Help It. Everyone I know who's heard it were blown away

i much prefer the released version. i guess this mix has been re-touched so i dunno which parts are what. but whatever...the extra stuff i hear is cool to hear and i'm glad i clicked the link. but i prefer it w/o the extra vocals on the bridge for sure. and even the extended bit at the end is cool to hear but i wouldn't have bought that 12 inch single to get that bit unless i were a completist (see: Prince).

fuck you.

Wait, we've got full multitracks for Wanna Be Startin' Somethin and the full Off The Wall album? I've got the files for PYT, Rock With You and Scream, but I'd stab someone for the full OTW and Thriller multitracks!

I know the multitracks to the whole OTW album is among some people but they're not letting them joints go. Only Rock With You and the acapella track to Off The Wall surfaced

from Thriller, PYT's out there, Beat It's are from the Guitar Hero game and the multitracks of Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' are from a single edit mix, not the album version or the uncut stems

I know the album track is out there but only the acapella track surfaced
