I agree with many people on this post. Just because an artist is not heard on the radio, doesn't mean the artist is not making music. Even though "Afraid" did get some airplay. But I hate the politics of the music industry. Mediocre singers like Rihanna and Trey Songz get all the airplay while the true amazing, groundbreaking singers like Amel Larrieux, Bilal, Cody Chesnutt, and Kimbra are slept on by the masses.
Because of how the record industry has changed, you don't need a major label to be successful. Artists like Tweet, Nicole Wray (Lady duo), and Kelis have gone independent and are able to make the music they love without compromise.
I am still thankful that you created this post though to recognize Amel Laurrieux (our generation's Minnie Riperton).

Here are my Youtube Videos from the Groove Theory Reunion Concert in Central Park 2 years ago. Questlove was the deejay. Previously, Amel talked in interviews about Groove Theory doing a new album and performing overseas. I guess they changed their mind and decided just to do a few shows. I don't understand how come Amel and Bryce can't do one more album. Their music still sounds great today as it did years ago. I guess they have different visions where they want to go music wise. Amel seems more experimental, avant garde like soul singer Bilal, while Bryce seems more grounded in the R & B genre. I do believe Amel's poetic lyrics and distinctive Minnie Riperton like voice and Bryce's timeless production are the perfect combination. They need each other musically.

She performed after King and Foreign Exchange and I was expecting a sleepy show. She stole the night for me. That says a whole lot because FE always brings the heat to a show. Amel is an amazing performer and her daughter is the truth too. I dreamed about that performance for 2 weeks after that show.
