"juelz - santana's town: worst rap single of 2003?"

LOTTA crap dropped in '03 - so it's really hard to quantify what makes something "the worst", but i think this is a strong nominee.

the beat is an annoying earache.
the rapping is laughably awful with loads of "memorable" lines.
the chorus is likewise memorable for being terrible.
the video was a 2-bit low-rent knock-off of xzibit's "what u see is what u get".
rather than record a clean version, the radio version that was played thousands of times just has massive sections of the lyrics muted.
cam with the pink panther shirt posted next to the 80 year old gay pimp in the video.

the song is only 3 minutes, 29 seconds long.
maybe some of the longest 3 minutes in rap history.

I actually grew to like it despite the chaos, because I didn't like the rest of the "fake it 'til you make it" music of the time. something about its "WTF"-ness seemed authentic. reading some of the writeups about that song are pretty hilarious.

I actually liked Juelz's album, and his follow-up; he actually became a better rapper over time. he even surprised on that first album, not so much with the rapping but the topics and how he approached them.

yet, I feel like a lot of the "WTF" rap that exists today could be traced back to this.

btw, the worst rap single of 2003 is 50 Cent's "In The Club".
proof positive that standards had been lowered.
flame me.
