but I don't think Em carried 2oo1 at all
if anything Dre and his writers carried that album vocally
but the reason Detox isn't coming out is probably because Dre refuses to take risks creatively

dude had two verses out of 19-20 tracks.

Hittmann was definitely the star of that album. wonder whatever happened to him, didn't hear much from him after 2001.

that because he shifted his focus to selling headphones, that putting out an album that was anything less than bangin' might hurt the viability & popularity of the brand. Does that make sense?

I think Detox had a shot in hell of coming out before Beats By Dre, but now, ESPECIALLY after the Apple deal, I think there's almost a zero percent chance of Dre ever putting another album out.

The only real "go" at it was when he released "Kush" and "I Need A Doctor" and I reckon that the lukewarm reaction those songs got probably scared Dre away from throwing his hat in the ring again. Honestly? Good decision. Those two songs were regressive, literally showing no growth from his last record. He's helmed or contributed to enough classics that he doesn't want to hurt his legacy or his brand.

dre knows to be successful as he has been in the past...he'd have to pander to a more contemporary sound. if he did that, it be increased screams of "ghost production".

dre is by and large a hip hop dude rooted in the classic boom bap...though he stretched it. i dont know if he's willing to step outside that into trap/drill whatever the fuck the kids is listening to today

and shit...would you?

what does he have to prove. he has a studio. he can make an album for his own pleasure and never let nobody hear it. he just made hundreds of millions for putting his name on some shit lol

and i'm not a money guy**

but... why would he do it? what does he have to gain? he only stands to lose

Some artists hit a point where they will sell no matter what they release and they still play this pandering game like they need a hit to stay relevant.

shit wayne said him & drake wrote for detox in 2008 lulz:
http://www.complex.com/music/2013/03/the-50-best-drake-songs/drake-lil-wayne-ransom

maybe he isn't 100 sold on the kid just yet or wants him to build up more
since dre/iovine are no longer 'interscope', if they wanna boast 'beats music' doing a contemporary detox like mchg/beyonce would definitely get subscribers and attention

Dre has a TEAM of producers and studio musicians that he works with now? If you think the days of it just being him and another cat in the studio with records are still here, you're a few years off.

If you're not aware that MOST supposed super producers in the game today either have a team of cats working on tracks for them OR just purchase beats from lesser known cats and pass them off as their own, then, you have just been informed.

And, cats BEEN doing this kind of thing from back in the day. This picture we have in our minds of a lone cat in the studio knocking out tracks by himself is an antiquated one that died as we came into the 2000s.

YES, most cats DO start out like that, but, once the money starts coming in, sometimes cats gotta focus on quantity over some slavish devotion towards an outdated ideal.

Respect from backpackers on an internet forum doesn't pay the bills.

I think Dre knows that he won't make as much money releasing an album as he can selling headphones and everything else... I mean, he's only about to become a billionaire...

EDIT: I'd love to hear like a 3CD Detox demo album though... You know he has a shit ton of songs for it...

Think you and I have discussed this here before. Tracks like "Topless" and the one already posted in here, are unreal and I'd love to just hear all the half finished shit he had planned for this project over the years, mostly for the beats. An album couldn't possibly do anything more than disappoint at this point so I'd rather just marvel at the production on the hundreds of half finished stuff he has in the vaults. Will be a shame if he lets all that shit just go to waste.

I remember it was springtime, either 2009 or 2010 and Dre and Iovine made a statement that the album was ready and Under Pressure would drop within a few weeks, with the full album to follow sometime that summer. Then they did a Beats by Dre promo thing at Fenway Park (I'm from Boston and was watching) a few weeks after that announcement and we never heard another word about it again. I've always been curious about which "version" of the album was "ready" at that point.

I remember when it was said that Snoop, Em, Jay, & T.I. were going to be the main writers and maybe guest appearances but over the years it's been maybe 20 other kats who were suppose to write songs for Dr.Orchestrate but later on the songs ended up leaking or the artist used it for their album.

Now everyone has been saying Kendrick has been writing a lot of it, but who else, I heard a rumor saying the only reason Em got with Slaughterhouse was to get in good with Royce and that Dre wanted the rest of the crew to be his newest writers but I think it's just a rumor, but do you think Dre will even keep the joints that K.Lamar did?
