>...first NoDrawls drop his instro album (its hella dope BTW) >and now this - making me look bad, just sittin here on my ass >doin nan, droppin a lil beat every now and then; IE; every >three months lol lol... On the real tho, I like where this is >goin, its a good look for us Lesson artists, everybody >gathering up some material and making it happen!!!
lol thats cos u got more important shit to do liiiiike, i dunno, raise a baby? im about a year or two off that myself (i get married end of this year) so i expect way less indulging in my passions as well. which, if i were to put a hippy dippy positive spin on it, i would describe as a longterm exercise in not being selfish lol.
>Now, for the main attraction... > >- murdered things had the ILL synthbass, which, at the >breakdown where its only that and the drums, reminded me of >that scene in ;INSERT random 80s actionflick; where the hero >has finally had enuff after the last innocent victim gets >slayed, and he walks the city at night, in the rain, headin >for the final showdown... Ohh, and it has the keys that sound >like brass, those were dope too!
hah. funny u say that, the original snare for it was a big splashy 80s one til i went a more Dilla route.
>- by your own hand has that alonetime-in-the-dojo feelin, I >can dig that for chillin, thinkin back on past martial arts >lessons and where they didnt take me lol... bongos was a good >match!
snatched the sample from 47 Ronin. was lit up when watching it and when i heard the music briefly play uninterrupted i wsa like...I MUST HAVE YOU. and had to add at least one bongo solo in there somwhere lol. think its the only one on the whole tape.
>- alto has that niiice vibe with the laid back organ chords >and them lil sweet strings, and then the drums come on and all >of a sudden its an effin slomo discobeat! Bass comes on and it >just enhances that feelin - some cruisin yet funky stuff I >imagine bein played at nightclubs in the late 70s... Maaan, I >would def. hit the clubs more often if they played stuff like >this!
right on the monet, tis in fact a slowed down disco beat via Gene Chandler ("When You're #1": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtTCgV0rBg4). this is one of my favs. reminds me of Jamiroquai a lil bit (if it had some flute and guitar solos, then moreso).
>- Then it gets all eurodance 90s with lets get mature and I >got truly lost. Like, theres no limits lol??? When it changes >into that halftempo groove with the machinery clap, synth >bubblin and all at 20:00 im with you again tho!!!
lol. majority of the track is made up of a Jodeci sample btw (the "eurodanciness" is from "Play Thang": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkxH1_ZtDYw).
>- empty is my jazzy break! My fav. outa this bunch - drums are >phat and heavy, real dope - piano pieces are soundin soo >dayum good too! Vocals works well, not much else to say really >- this is MY SHIT!!!
samples "Little Boy" by Omar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Xr7OilXhPk (in case heads didnt pick it). heaps of fun to make. and a conscious throwback to the type of stuff i used to make/focus on years ago.
>- Gotta give a quik shoutout to the EVIL guitarline on >s(hell)ter - real BANGIN - In a live setting, I can see >everybody gettin up off their asses and noddin their heads >real hard at this one, meanmuggin and all lol!!!
ye probs the darkest track i ever made lol, including the opening dialogue from one of my fav moofies, "Event Horizon". main sample is "Say You Will" by Blanket Of Secrets: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SOFboWRlOQ.
>- not what things seem has the most epic of all instruments - >a HARP - and therefore it automatically qualifies for the top >of my list!!! The smoothed out vibe was real cool, and the >snare has that good smack!
dat harpy goodness, sampled from "La Avispa" by The Rainbow Orchestra: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeNsSjSnXb8. main samples are however from "It Seems Like You're Ready" by The Arruh: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0UYrhYm2Rc.
>- wheel was real dreamy, I could see myself on random beach >with the white sand and the turquoise water, sippin on some >lemonade and just floating away to this! Lil ahhs completed >the picture...
the "ahhs" were ones i recorded around 8yrs back, never got around to using em til a couple weeks ago. woulda done more with this if i had more patience.
>- over has DOPE vox man, DOPE vox! AND a pianoroll that sounds >a bit like a harp so Im all with it lol!!!
all thanks to the dopeness that is "Onda" by Cassiano: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAQJjY6Zxe8.
>- drag was the perfect backdrop for playin Assassins Creed for >some reason, which I have been doin all day so thats that!
since ur the only one to comment on it sofar, ima take it that this ones a bit divisive lol. thing is, its grown to be my fav outta the bunch. and one im seriously considering making a trippy music vid for. tis 100% made up of samples from "Gravity: Pushing To Pull" by Maxwell: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cr-m4ffKG08.
>- Ohh, and you brought chimes for the outro (cloud.), AND a >flute AND a nice breakbeat to go with it? PERFECT for zonin >out once again...
opening and closing chimes sampled from the Punch-Drunk Love s/track by Jon Brion (my fav fillum of alltimes), main samples were from the tail-end of DJ Quik's "Whateva U Do": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NExfDGtR618.
>All in all, I gotta say, listenin to this took me a whole >lotta places without even gettin up and I always enjoy that - >MAJOR props for puttin together a project that has sooo many >references, genreblends and generally good vibes thruout, >without losing itself in the process!!!
pretty much spot on what i was goin for, so thanks for hearin it, and for the thoroughass breakdown.
