Some really good songs on here.
This dude can make some really sick music when he's focused.
His catalog is riddled with well-written, well-composed music...
This album ain't no exception to that.
"Lock The Door" on here? Another classic joint.

I've enjoyed his stuff for a long time, but this stalker shit is awful. It creeps me the fuck out. It's one thing to write a song about an ex, but to turn your breakup and attempts at reunion into an entire really creepy album (that bears her name as its title) is over the top.

I know there's precedent, but this dude's not Marvin.

It's funny, too, because I usually argue *against* being overly concerned with an artist's personal problems, failings, criminal behavior, whatever. But this whole thing is just kind of...

Ugh.

That album dropped last July. Still too early to be dropping another LP already. Especially on some creeper shit.

I actually don't know much about her at all. But I see your point.

Honestly, it's more about how disingenuous and ethically questionable the whole thing is. How manipulative it is. Seems like an obvious grab for viral attention at the expense of others.

Like I said, I can't entirely explain my loathing of it.

But it doesn't hurt that I didn't like his last few lps that much, so I don't really feel like I'm missing much by passing on listening...

is Robin taking his biting of Marvin Gaye to the next level. When shit got rough, Marvin got super personal...irreversibly personal. This album from Robin Thicke is that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Here,_My_Dear

I welcome stuff like this if it is good. Singers singing about shit that matters to them for real...imagine that...even though I personally see the circumstances as 'dumb guy shit' if the rumors are true, but hey...that doesn't make him special..dudes mess up all the time. He just got caught and his chick drew the line on him.

...to go to her (since I believe Marvin was broke).

So he went in with thoughts of tanking the album so it wouldn't sell.
But when he got in the studio...something else happened.
All these feelings about his marriage came out and...Here My Dear happened.

One of my most favorite stories behind an album.

In another era this wouldn't be as big a deal. Begging for your woman to take you back after fucking up is a staple of R&B/Soul music since it's inception but in today's climate of "deez hoez ain't loyal" I'm not sure how this will be received regardless of how the actual music sounds. People will call it a marketing ploy, or pathetic or whatever. Women may not "forgive" him for stepping out on his wife and a lot of dude's today are way too gangsta and cool for school to publicly admit to liking an album that appears to be so vulnerable and "weak".

Drake/Kanye/Lil B world? No snark, genuine question. I'm too old and insulated to give a shit about the world at large anymore, but it seems like the pop and rap music that passes through my eardrums lately is a lot more sensitive and touchy-feely than it was, say, a decade ago.

Drake, Yeezy, etc aren't DMX but they still have that "I don't need no bitch"/"fuck deez hoez" attitude in their music. What people see as sensitive in the Rap world is still pretty misogynistic by any other reasonable standard.

It's beyond that. I posted the lead single on another forum, asking what people
think about it, and on chick responded that she can't forgive him for making
a song that's "literally about rape" (her exact words, referring to "Blurred Lines").
I'm like jesus christ... song ain't even about rape, but I ain't ask you shit about that song, lol.

36. "RE: Robin Thicke/Paula (full album)"

I think this album came correct. I have been liking "Living In New York City". So far that track has stood out every time I've played it. That track has some great energy.

I read a few articles, like this one: http://www.axs.com/robin-thicke-to-blur-the-lines-between-r-b-and-jazz-at-festival-in-new-10408

I know that article came out before the album did, but it says Black Daddy is a seven-piece backing band. I noticed that the backing band put some work into some of the album. What does the band name "Black Daddy" mean? Can anyone explain something about the meaning of the band name?
