The very first song that I ever recorded in a professional recording studio was done to a sample of a Bobby Womack song titled "Think It Over" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_iWpTj2xFM
Man, such a light to the world. He will be missed. RIP
His performance at last year's Glastonbury festival (exactly a year ago), brought a lump to my throat and a tear to my eye. He was the very definition of soul.

I've always been partial to Bobby..if I were to make one, he'd be higher on 'my list' than maybe he 'should' be when technically considering catalogs, 'classic'/perfect albums where you like every song, etc...you know...all of the nerdy shit we worry about when we go through the process of fucking up music for one another. On a just listen and let the music do it's thing basis, Bobby was just awesome.
The thing about Bobby...he had songs that could hit you in a deep and dark place if you heard it at the right/wrong time. That's the way I feel about cha, If you think you're lonely now, Harry Hippy, I can understand it, I'm Through (Trying to Prove my love to you), Nobody Wants you when you're down and out (wow), etc. Most of his stuff could break you completely down if it it caught you at the 'right' time.
'I'm Through' got me out of some bad relationships for sho. It was like a more confident version of OP's 'Free' for me. Sugafoot wanted out and was deciding to go mid-song..Bobby was already out and trying to tell you to get out too!
'A Woman's gotta have it' plays in my mind most the time when I'm kissing. 'When you kiss her, you gotta make her feel it! Every time boy!'. Haha...it is crazy how music runs my life sometimes.
If I was a singer, I'd end shows with that. It would almost be a service to the dudes in the crowd with their women..or hell, maybe even more for the dudes who weren't there with their women..haha..'He'll be there...when the sun go down..and I'll be somewhere running down the same old line..in another town..' Ill. Real. Beautiful. Ugly. Honest. Soul. Music. Great.
I heard that Bobby's been sick for at least a few years...forgetting major chunks of lyrics to songs during shows, having to cancel shows/tours, etc. I'm honestly surprised that he made it this long...some of these cats live and die so hard man...RIP Bobby.

I hadn't thought about him in a while, I didn't even know that he was sick. I heard his song, "The Facts Of Life"-->>> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBV-t86N7OM I love this song so much and when I heard it last Thursday night on the radio and I didn't move the car until the song went off, this past Monday, I found out he had passed away.
He was one of the greats and definitely an Unsung musical giant and he will be missed. R.I.P. Bobby Womack !!!
