I mean, I have never seen Currensy music panned like it has been since he signed that deal...he's lost his creative edge.
He's been a wild disappointment as a major artist, all because the black guy was right: his brand was better when he was independent. He is a niche artist who had a style, slang, and bravado that was perfect for the millennial era fan....by signing to a major, he just because another rapper, and he can't really compete in that lane. He's not rhyming about fashion like Rocky or marrying strippers like Wiz. And he's not that great a pure rapper. He fucked up.

Before that interview, I was JUST thinking:
"why the fuck did this dude's brand fall off SO badly?"
A few years ago he was the PERFECT indy artist, was primed for a LONG run. His mixtape releases used to be EVENTS. He had image, style, etc second to NONE.
Now this dude is just another random rapper on a big label. They don't push him properly, his album undersold, and people barely check for his mixtapes anymore.
The whole part of the Curren$y experience was that you were checking for something dark and forbidden in a sense.

the way the horn comes in & out for the 'reveal' shot at the end of the sample loop.
Drums are kinda bare-bones, don't actually knock but I realize that's by design.
But I don't know if it needed to go on for six minutes with basically no sonic variation.
Or with Curren$y seemingly slowing/shortening/simplifying his bars to the point he's saying shit like 'I get it cracking like jokes' & then pausing before delivering another throwaway line.
You can barely tell the verses from what he's trying to pass off as a hook.
Curren$y is not a hook rapper.
All that being said, it still kinda sets a mood and vocal tone-wise he sounds good.
Feel like somebody coulda made better work of this by either jettisoning the nondescript 'chorus', switching up the sample/drums at some point or creating a bridge/beat switch, then maybe went a little harder with the raps or did something more interesting with the flow.
It's an awkward beat to rhyme over tho so maybe it wouldn't work anyway.

for the past few years. I think he first did it on one of those songs with Fiend. Interested to see if this is indicative of what Pilot Talk 3. There's a slowness and simplicity to this that reminds me of Pilot Talk 1 but this could just be a random one-off track.
