"new Music Snobs-(Roots subject matter)"

http://themusicsnobs.com/

Episode 026
Are the Roots still legendary? The Music Snobs and guest-Snob Nicholas Payton take time out to examine the late night tenure of Hip-Hop’s favorite band and wonder out loud if Questlove and crew have overstayed—and maybe even begun to fade. Then TMS gets technological by asking: What If the iPod had never been invented? Next, the Snobs + Nic anoint Donald Byrd the godfather of ’soul jazz’… almost. Lastly, a new TMS round table gives each Snob a chance to build the ultimate emcee by plucking individual skills from legends—and creating an icon.

Making it seem like them doing a stint on a popular talk show is a bad thing, and that they will end their careers in that spot. Come on..

How can that platform and exposure be a bad thing. I'm suprised they forgot to bring up the Bamboozled cameo to further their 'case'.

If they're known for being on the show, that doesn't mean that all their classic albums will suddenly disappear and that people can't back track and do the knowledge.

They're free enough to do the show, release albums, and whatever else they do. They hadn't even heard the new album, knowing that it was coming and they still found time to hate.

Also, it's wack for trying to making it seem like them using Black Thought's real name is a bad thing. Chill B.

(I'm pretty new to this podcast and it's decent overall, but this one, eh..)

At least the Roots section... for being "music snobs," they didn't talk about any actual, um, music? All just armchair management speculation...

If anything, they said they wanted The Roots to go further and become focused exclusively on their own work

Jehan (the British guy) was pretty pro-The Roots too and in The Roots' corner

They almost were saying that they felt The Roots were too good to stay where they were indefinitely

with no music discussion, it's hard to know what their point was. By th end it was pretty clear that they all thought they needed to move on from Fallon. But their reasons were mostly speculation, about what could happen to their reputation/legacy. There was no consideration of what they've done since they've been on Fallon (which is actually quite a bit, whether you like the material or not).

It's a late night comedy show , the segment is they found a dance line on VHS and EVERYONE is silly in it.

At least Rakim still don't smile - and millions of folks see him every week.

I'll bet you think MC Serch shouldn't be a relationship therapist either.

Dude really needs to stop doing what he wants to do and pay more attention to the image that we want him to project as a serious hip hop artist. After all, we've been giving him the gift of our full and undivided attention for two decades - the least he could do is listen to respect our wishes about what he does and does not do on tv.

One dude wants The Roots to hang it up because they keep doing the same "parlor tricks?" It was cool for X AMOUNT OF TIME, but it's getting old at X+1 AMOUNT OF TIME.

Another is mad because they keep calling Tariq by his NAME? (Because NBC don't want people using the word "black" too much??) Jesus Christ, Pepper Potts calls him Tony, not Iron Man.

The Jazz dude thinks that The Roots are losing their chops because they're rehearsing 5 hours a day to play 10 minutes of music? (Were they playing that much pre-Fallon, I bet not.)

They didn't even seem to know the output The Roots have done since the show, BUT THEN they keep saying it wasn't as relevant as it was in the past?

Honestly, would the Roots output be very relevant in today's market place? The kids are listening to garbage, Chief Keef, Lil Wayne, Pitbull, Young Money, Wiz Khalifia , you think a Phrenology II is going to change music?

Another dude thinks they should quit now because it's been 5 years and they haven't crossed over and become huge, so why keep going that way? (The other way to look at it is that the Roots are as popular as ever, very few artists can say that who've been around since 1995.)

Honestly, these dudes sound like backpackers from 1998 arguing about music.

It's 2014, hip-hop *is* dead, or at least hip hop from Loud Records is dead.

Want them to be Brotha Ali? Wants them to stop making music so it somehow preserves the image you want left?

They aren't

And why is bad for The Roots to expand into Late Night Comedy Skits?

Since The Roots have joined the Fallon Show they've had this output:

Nominated for Six Grammies

Albums:
How I Got Over
Wake Up! (with John Legend)
Betty Wright: The Movie
Undun
…And Then You Shoot Your Cousin

and..
Duffy - Endlessly
Jimmy Fallon - Blow Your Pants Off

Plus on the Tonight Show they:
Played with THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
Played Lyin Ass Bitch for Michelle Bachman
Played more hip-hop than any other band on a talk show ever.

And they've done:
The Philly July 4th concert (more than half-a-million watch this.)
Rally To Restore Sanity
Played The Winter Olympics

And they've had a number of "super viral" videos with jimmy Fallon, including "Let it Go" with Idina Menzel, Sesame Street, Mariah Carey, Robin Thicke, Christina Aguilaira, and probably more.

EDIT: And they've played with hundreds of musical guests from all styles of music from hip-hop to country.

Maybe the hosts could explain what they want The Roots to do. If it's to forever change the face of all music and to get NBC executives to joint the Nation of Islam then I agree, The Roots are a huge disappointment,

Exactly. This is what bothered me. Nobody (well except maybe Jehan) was talking about The Roots output after Fallon. If they were to come out saying they didn't like the music the Roots have put out since being on Fallon, THAT'S a conversation to have. But to say that doing The Tonight Show is getting in the way of what the Roots do without talking about what they've done is short sighted.

Did they not like undun? How I Got Over (not sure if this was pre or post Fallon)?
The project w/ Elvis Costello?
The project w/ John Legend?

The latter two projects essentially happened BECAUSE of Fallon. And I'm of the belief that they're time on Fallon has allowed them more freedom for their music.

If people want to argue about the quality of the music, that's cool... but this idea that they're not working as much, not playing as much, esp. without taking their last several years of output into account, is pretty ridiculous.
