the amount of GOOD rappers out there putting in work, from the ground up, to be great.
I can't imagine a lower bar than praising a dude who went from straight up unlistenable/corny/horrible/punch line status to...I guess he's not unlistenable every verse
then taking that progress and labelling him "most improved".
This is white privelege at its almost finest- though the blogs in his pocket aren't hurting either. Though I guess those two aren't necessarily unrelated.
The blogs and the lesson tripping over themselves to embrace this dude when you can spend an hour on bandcamp or soundcloud and find 10 better rappers easy. Who are also improving.

I've checked out a few of his mixtapes. On "commercial" type beats, dude is pretty bad. Over 90's style hip hop beats (and there's a surprising number of them on his mixtapes), he's actually pretty decent and I can fuck with him.
Lil B is like this too. Dude is basically unlistenable EXCEPT two tracks I heard of his: "Giving Up" and "Keep Sagging".
DJ Jazzy Jeff: "The concept was, I did a song or two. I think Premier did a couple of songs and Pete Rock did a couple of songs. He got a lot of classic producers to do stuff. He’s now the business of Mac Miller, so a lot of times, you just have to figure out where this project fits in that business."

Link in the article dates back to 2012. We're just hearing a Pete Rock joint now. Most interesting thing to me was when he said,
That Mac Miller is a business at this point and you need to find where you fit in one of his businesses/albums if you wanna work with him.
Its true because Mac does lots of things. Last solo album was a darker album, lots of LA friends. He does producer stuff with the Larry Fisherman name. He's got the QUASIMOTO alter ego Delusional Thomas stuff.
The kid just loves to make music and naturally the more stuff he does, the better he gets.
I can respect that. He's not trying to be anything he's not. He's kinda like a solo version of a 90's baby Beastie Boy. Doesn't take himself too seriously, he's not trying to be 50 on records.
