This is not a slight to Hooligan Al aka Mudfoot aka Alchestein.
I'm a HUGE fan of Alan The Chemist and I happen to LOVE his bars as a rapper. His beats have gone from dusty samples, keyboard krushers, back to 4-bar loops, and fuzzy drums. He can do quite a bit as a beatmaker/producer (I think of a beatmaker as someone who can craft the music as a backdrop where a producer knows how to freak new elements within that framework AND fit it to rappers' bars and the like)
Madlib has way more lanes. More lanes than any beatmaker or producer walking the planet. I dare say Madlib had more lanes than Dilla. It's like Madlib gets sloppy on purpose and gets "technically sound" when it serves a particular need in his arsenal. He has flaws, sure, but his highs far outweigh his lows. Plus he seems to have a tireless need to continually reinvent himself.

The only thing I really like from Lib is Madvillain. Al got way more bangers. I don't expect folks on OKP to agree its home field advantage we already know the outcome.
Yesterday's New Quintet! His Broken beat project as Dj Rells! His remix for Jazzanova's Love You And I are all examples of his range as a producer. Alc is easily one of my faves but his production always feel East Coast whereas Lib seems to be all over the place in a very a good way. But Alc is one of the best!! Tough one to decide but edge goes to Lib for range!
