"Drake - 0 To 100 / The Catch Up (Prod. Boi1-da, 40, Nineteen85)"

http://itzsoweezee.com/drake-0-to-100-the-catch-up/

New raps by Drake, starting with his usual braggadocio raps and then transitioning into some shit that's more personal. Even if you don't like Drake, the production on the 2nd half by 40 is worth it.

The first half of the song. It still goes though, I'm not sure what people really expect from Drake at this point in his career.

The lines that stuck out to me in the first half were the ones about recording Comeback Season and then going into the studio with 40 for the So Far Gone sessions all night every night. And that he didn't want to push 40 too hard to make his multiple sclerosis worse. Unless you know about his illness that line would just go over your head.

The second half, when he talks about already having Spring 2015 locked with all the artists projects he wants to drop also is dope BC it reminds me of the hustle my own team is on this year.

What do (critical) people really want to hear Drake rap about? When he raps his emo shit he gets clowned, when he raps his trap shit its written off as not believable..

But he continues to expand his fan base exponentially regardless.

Being from Toronto and travelling to Europe earlier this year, the first reaction I get from locals is about Drake. Like him or not, he put the city on the map something crazy.

I know Mark Ronson, Adrian Younge, Pretty Lights, Portishead have recorded original music to sample on their own music (as opposed to adding live instrumentation to a beat, i.e. The Roots/CunninLynguists/Terrace Martin/Mannie Fresh etc.).

But who has written and recorded original music - that sound like 70's music someone like Alchemist might sample - for the sole purpose of OTHER hip hop producers sampling it?

selling original music for people to sample is a pretty lucrative business on the low

actual original compositions recorded for other producers to use.

Frank Dukes has this: http://hiphopdrumsamples.com/products/kingsway-music-library
I wonder how much he actually composes what's being played on those tracks, vs. how much the studio musicians are making up
