I'm with you on those ratings. He's dope but he don't really be talking about shit. He's funny without trying though. Dude keep me laughing. I'd probably go a nine on the voice. I never give out perfect 10s.

I usually do with rappers..
But his old man voice is cool, too..
Also his younger flow seemed much more funky IMO. Of course, this is usually what I've noticed with many rappers. Not sure if it's because the beats have changed or because the overall musical landscape has..

I think his voice stayed the same imo.. however his lyrics/content went from violent & sinister (with a hint of humor) to comical & self deprecating, for the most part
7. "I appreciated his need to reinvent himself after Heltah Skeltah" In response to Reply # 6
especially since Rock was the more instantly recognizable.
I'm not sure if he was a better pure rapper back then or it was having someone to balance him out as part of a duo with two dudes who fit together but stood out too.
But I'd agree I have more quotables & vocal/flow displays coming to mind on Nocturnal, however Onion Head might be the best combo of hard-body delivery and memorable 'Mortal Kombat'-finishing move.
Not to mention I've listened to Nocturnal at least a couple hundred times more than all of Sean P's stuff put together.
14. "To be honest I haven't been able to get into his solo material as much" In response to Reply # 7
I've tried, but stuff like Monkey Barz (which I own) just doesn't really click with me. Its not that its bad, his new style often just seems to come off as a bit...don't crucify me for using this word but...generic? maybe? He is still a great rapper though, my favorite thing he has done since Nocturnal (which is like 50x better than anything he has been a part of since IMO) is the Random Axe album. I haven't revisited his solo material in a while though, maybe its time for me to do a relisten....
10. "Mic Tyson is still solid" In response to Reply # 9
but I hear what you're saying. It's about time for him to change things up again to remain fresh. I think he's a solid 8 over all as a lyricist/performer.
15. "I'd give Redman a 9 lyrically and P isn't close to him IMO" In response to Reply # 11
I'd say maybe a 6.5 at most for lyrics now, 7 if we include the HS stuff
