so tragic, definitely deserves its own post, at the very least
he was absolutely in his prime - getting better and better with each release, putting out SO much work lately (as always), just finally getting started to gain some cross-genre, worldwide recognition

With spinn, and apparently spinn went ahead as planned and filled both of their timeslots with one set.
I cant even imagine what the emotional tone of the party was. Paying tribute to his best friend who passed away 10 hours ago with the art they created together...gives me the chills thinking about what that must have been like for both him and the crowd

for those claiming that he was the all time best in footwork, i have to respectfully disagree.
rashad did a brilliant job of spreading footwork beyond chicago, and he was doing something on double cup that no one else in footwork had really done up to then (ie making it album oriented, and making it more than just dancefloor music, and really making the production much more high end), but i actually think traxman is the best producer out of that crew.

This isnt directed at you personally so dont take it asRashad's cism of your post, particularly since the overall point of your post suggests that, to some extent, we are of the same mind.
I just cant get behind the idea that making dance music more abstract and more "suitable" for home/private listening is inherently better. All of this (techno/house/drum&bass/et al) is dancefloor music first and foremost, and no home listening experience has the emotionally transformative potential of a dancefloor experience.
and thats actually why i took a while to get into double cup as it seemed a bit too much like a smoothing out and refining of the things i liked most about footwork. but the album is good on its own terms, away from all of that baggage. but yeah, in many ways the teklife vol 1 album is better i think. double cup is more for people who dont perhaps like other footwork to help them get into it. double cup is basically like a footwork album 9th wonder or questlove might make imo.
