I agree for the most part but Jill Scott can sang. She's almost always
on point so it hasn't been that long since we heard a great singer.

But yeah, Kelis was never a great singer. I wouldn't even call her a good singer. She's just okay. That's like the only downside to her new album. Her voice ain't built to carry them type of tracks. Her voice worked with Chad & P because it wasn't traditional R&B.

any pitched instrument playing at the beginning except the bass, and it's much harder for a singer to pick up the correct key from just hearing the bass player without any keyboards/guitar as a pitch reference. She may have not had the bass up high enough in her in ear monitors as well.

Regardless, that's the type of think that should have easily been picked up in either rehearsal or soundcheck - often with something like that they will have another track going just to the singer's ears that has a keyboard part or something in it where she can pick up the correct key. Or at a minimum have the keyboard player play a chord as a reference before the audio goes live.

I've been listening to "Jerk Ribs" for about a year now & it
reminds me so much of Fela & Afrobeat. Kelis sounds & looks amazing.
