Kendrick will drop folks who ONLY L.A. people know, like Mausberg. And Drake will shoutout everyone from Phonte to Fat Pat...and it's not many people I know who really listen to both artists

i'm from the other side of the country and i remember mausberg. he was quik's act, he got killed in like 2000. he was on one of quik's singles. i think it may have been "hand in hand" with el.
>And Drake will shoutout everyone from Phonte to Fat >Pat...
depending on what city he's in and what he thinks will get a cheap reaction from the audience, i wouldn't be surprised if he said he was a fan of GG allin if he was in front of the right audience. dudes been a poser. winning like shit tho.

knows him, let alone outside of. He also mentioned Suga Free, who people on here may know, but the average person under 25 outside of L.A. has zero idea about.
With Drake...I feel like it's at least half genuine, because you can see when he uses styles of whatever artists he mentions.

...and Shabaam Sadeeq. He was on the battle circuit with guys like Thirstin Howl III and J.U.I.C.E. Plus, he grew up on hip-hop during the mid to let '80s. Listing those guys as influence isn't that much of a stretch, especially Kool Keith. Shoot, he shouted out Dr. Octagon and a track he did with The Outsidaz in the late '90s.

Artist rarely exist in the tiny bubbles that a lot of fans try and limit them to. Underground. Gangsta. Political. Most artists don't listen to music that way. If you were into Hip Hop and you're in your late 30's to early 40's you listened to most of the same artists. There weren't as many people putting out rap records and they're weren't 50 new mixtapes a week like nowadays so when a new album came out pretty much everyone listened to a lot of the same shit.
