Jay-Z Best 4 LP's vs Kanye West Best 4 LP's

**Of course this post is just for fun but I was talking to someone and they talked about Kanye run since his debut. For 10 years he has made some great music and of course Jay-Z is well, Jay-Z. Now this might sound like a mismatch but is it really? We more than likely will not agree on each of these dudes best 4 albums so I will just list mine.

Jay-Z
1. Reasonable Doubt
2. The Blueprint
3. The Black Album
4. Vol. 2... Hard Knock Life (many will replace this one)

Kanye West

1.The College Dropout
2. Late Registration
3. Graduation
4. MBDTF

So. when you look at it, is it really that much of a mismatch? I think in terms of overall music quality its very close. Of course in terms of raw mcing Jay-Z kills him b/c Kanye could never spit like Jigga in Reasonable Doubt & Vol. 1 days. With that being said, could Jay-Z make a Jesus Walks, I Wonder & other tracks Ye did & pulled off.

How do you see their best 4 LP's matching up in terms of overall quality of music?

Peace

If we add Nas in, taking his best four albums its

the first obvious two

Illmatic
It Was Written

then the other two is where we are likely to see many differences between people, mainly because some people won't count Lost Tapes as an album, so excluding Lost Tapes which is would easily be third....I'd say

Stillmatic
Life As Good

For me, easily better than any four Kanye albums someone could put up, but its allot closer with Jay Z. Illmatic/It Was Written give the win to Nas though because I believe both of those albums are better than Reasonable Doubt (Jay's best imo)

Jay is easily the better emcee but music-wise, Ye got it and I'm not even that big a fan of College Dropout.

B/c that "Heaven" shit on his last album was so cringe-worthy I couldn't make it the whole way through. "Feelin It" is probably the closest thing I can think of that's like "Jesus Walks" but given that he made "D'Evils" around the same time and that better suiting his persona at the time I still don't know.

But countered that that they were different. In the case of "D'evils" it's cooler to say you sold your soul for riches than to say you bow down to God. "Heaven" was a piece of shit. "Feelin It" was the closest b/c he does seem to be humbled by a higher being but it's not that way the whole song.

On a side note...I may be entering Jesus Walks into the most overrated songs of all-time category.

From a raw Hip Hop & ripping the Mic I go with Jay-Z. Of course the creativity of Kanye is good so I can see some going his way.

Not to mention those 4 albums make up 80% of Kanye's rap catalog, whereas Jay has a LOT of lackluster releases in his discography.

Yeah, I just think its much closer than people initially thought when you look that the music. Yes Jay-Z is a better MC but as an artist, Kanye edges him. This is when you start looking at where Kanye is historically in Hip Hop. He is up there now.

Kaney has maybe two albums worth of material that is above average by any standard
those Jay albums listed are more consistent and better executed

Reasonable Doubt
American Gangster
Blueprint
Black Album (or Vol 1...whatever)

Those first 3 albums are easily better than anything Kanye has even put out IMO. Where Kanye is really hurt is that even on his best MC performances he just isn't touching Jay Z at his peak...not even close

vs

College Dropout
Late Registration
MBDTF

I only put three for Ye, because despite the fact that I really really like the albums listed, I don't like the rest of his albums..I think 808s/Graduation/Yeezus suck pretty much.

(replacing Vol. 2 with American Gangster), Jay.

As Pop albums, gauging there importance in music, how much I like them, and not limiting it to the genre of Rap.

Kanye is on a different planet.

Sounds convoluted, but Kanye accomplished way WAY more than Jay did in a more global, general sense, than specifically who put out the best displays of beats, rapping ability, and what have you.
