look at this shit

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-p7pcaovIDY

What part of an artform is that?

A lot of heads will say shit isn't what it used to be but imo, this is nothing more than the natural trajectory of any activity based on getting a crowd of people to cheer your efforts to degrade someone. The bar raises, envelope pushed, any semblance of respect and craftsmanship eventually leans out the window so far it falls 9 stories to its ugly final splat.

Crabs and buckets, no artists or poets or musicians to be seen.

I don't understand why everyone is so religious about rap contests being centered around insults and destruction. Cats who think this is important have zero imagination.

The general overall TMZ "lets watch us claw each other" spirit is why i stopped going to local hip-hop events back in the day. This is extreme, but its mostly just varying levels of toxicity.

Like none of leads to blowing up or selling records at all
But I guess somehow somewhere niggas are getting paid for it
But I'd expect most ppl to view it as corny

I know people call this "battle rap" but really it's just two people hurling occasionally rhyming insults at each other. Battle rap was never about this crap. It was about lyrical skill and being clever punch-lines were supposed to be funny, like jokes. Also, there are a wide variety of ways that improvisational rap manifests itself, cyphers (my favorite) word games, etc.

I think that saying battle rap is bad because of the example you showed is like saying airplanes are bad because predator drones are airplanes.

a pass. There are no passes to hand out it will continue to thrive whether you like it or not. Battle rap crowds are way bigger than open mic night crowds nowadays. It isn't for everyone but at least the boring and derivative cats get weeded out in battle rap. I'm sure a lot of flower pot head struggle rappers are mad that they don't get the type of attention that these battle rappers do.

... so if a name that can draw is on a card I think said rapper/battler/name gets a payout. If the money is worth it, I will possibly never know.

I mean bringing up 9/11 and her boyfriend because he was arab? That shouldn't be condoned anywhere. Thats kind of fucked. I'm okay with a battle getting to the point one person gets upset and leaves because its the nature of the game, but fight club needs some rules.

I saw ray Mancini kill duk koo Kim on channel 7 in a boxing match

nobody said 1 bad word about boom boom Mancini

you know why?
1 it's blood sport
2 duk koo Kim knew what he was getting in too

if you don't have the stomach for it (omg they said something about 9-11!) don't tune in!

eminem and OF been making songs about raping woman

some of you guys just don't get it

& sounding real vaginal

poster 1-UP said he felt like some lines were crossed... i told him thats pretty much how it goes in battle rap...disrespectful shit gets said on a regular basis. i really got no dog in the fight bro. plenty of cats have made 911 references, it is what it is...but that rape shit gets the sideeye from me... kool g made a reference way back when and the shit was wack then too.

Meh, If you call an arab a terrorist just for being arab- you're acting like a douche to me. I don't care if you're some crusty white conservative Bill O'Reilly type, or a battle rapper. Thats all there is. No need to get all pissy yourself. Its just the internet and its just music. Don't take it so seriously my man.
