Here we come, here we come...

'Let the madness begin now, let it begin' pops in my head every year during this week with the NCAA tournament starting at the end of it.

Sean Price.

Therapy.

LEFLAUR LEFLAH ESHKOSCHKA!

I know Dah Shinin' is the fashionable Boot Camp album to name as their best if it's not Enta Da Stage.

And Dah Shinin' is great. It's a put-it-on-leave-it-on/murky-mid-90s/weed-record that captures that era's aesthetic but doesn't truly transcend it.

Rock & Ruck are just so much more dynamic MC's than Tek & Steele and the high points on this album are higher.

There's also a bit more variance on the production, with the full gauntlet of BCC producers and then my boy E-Swift from Tha Liks.

I picked it up upon release and dug it but I think its charms are more subtle; it didn't knock me over. It wasn't until years later I realized how good and consistent it was not to mention that the Ruck&Rock dynamic was great, more so than Tek&Steele who pretty much sounded like the same guy to me (yes, I *can* tell the difference but it's not too noteworthy) or those OGC-guys whose album has NOT grown on me and where I'm not at all sure I could distinguish the two guys NOT named Starang; they were like subtle variations of the same wack style...

Anyway, it's the Bootcamp album that holds up the best to me too. I don't want to use the word "dated" to describe the black Moon-album since I recently stated that I hate the word in music-criticism so I just say that those hooks suck for the most part and it's a bit too samey as an album and works better on a song-by-song level. "Dah shinin'" is too long and even more monotonous and samey; again, song-by-song is the best way to listen today I think.

I guess you could call "Nocturnal" monotonous and samey too but the production is a bit more dynamic and as I said, the two mc's complement eachother so well that I can listen to the album start-to-finish without problem and really dig it; actually, it's very much an *album* to me-not too many standout tunes that knock you out, more the combined impact of the individual tunes and the vibe it sets...

It wouldn't be in my top 10 of 96. It's a good album though.

However for the juggernaut that was the 90s it's middle of the pack. I am especially proud of that album because they were my hometown heroes. This was the first time I could say I really REALLY knew someone who made an album. They made me believe the shit was real.

The only song that I felt was a weak link was Grate Unknown (Rock's solo). Everything else was from good to great. The production was dark but melodic. Songs like Prowl and Understand were album cuts that were straight up banging.

I'm a fan.

Let's see, for me, top 10, no order:

Illadelph Halflife
ATLiens
At the Speed of Life
Iron Man
Muddy Waters
Stakes is High
Hell on Earth
Clear Blue Skies (Juggaknots)
Enigma
Nocturnal

I mean, I'd put it close to the bottom of the top 10, and there are a group of albums that you could argue to be top 10 (The Coming, Wild Cowboys, Dr. Octagonycoligist, New World Order, Wrath of the Math, and others). But I wouldn't have a problem putting it in the top 10.

I think I might have it above Speed of Life nowadays.

>Iron Man
>Muddy Waters
>Stakes is High
Hmmm......Stakes is Hard

If I took off that or the Xzibit then it becomes Top 5 and on a given day I could do that.

Iron Man, Muddy Waters, Illadelph & ATLiens are the only non-starters for me.

>Hell on Earth
>Clear Blue Skies (Juggaknots)
>Enigma
Better, along with above the ones you had in the argument parentheses.

I mean, I wouldn't have them there, but I understand that others hold them in extremely high esteem:

Reasonable Doubt
It Was Written (certianly gets major love around here)
The Score (despite the fact that all three have become punchlines, I still really enjoy this album)
UGK - Ridin Dirty (truthfully, never heard the whole thing)
All Eyez and Me & Makaveli (most people's love for 2Pac flows from these)

so I'm probably like you, back end of Top 10.

I'm not as in love with It Was Written as others here, tho I probably do go back to certain cuts on there more than Nocturnal.

I see most people saying it doesn't crack top 10 of 96 but I wouldn't be mad if someone had it at that 9 or 10 slot.

It definitely has gotten better with time and has held up well.

As far as where it lands out of albums in the 90s...not sure, probably top 100.
