The Listening is cool but we talking about FANTASTIC VOL. 2

I can't name a better hiphop album from a production standpoint since.

That's really what it is.

Better, more engaging MC's making more enjoyable songs(to me). Songs like Speed, Away From Me, The Listening, Whatever You Say....

Both great albums though.

I never understood why people believe it's without peer in regards to production, even within it's time period
it's definitely out of sight but not bulletproof

I mean.... I can see Fantastic winning this poll, but if you think about it it's not as much as a landslide as you may think. Music production or lyrics? Those albums are a 60/40 split on either side to me.

Though I can see why not everyone would feel it. It's a divisive album because of the lyrics. Production wise, it's a landslide victory for SV. Depends on what you personally value in an album, I guess.

The Busta and Kurupt featured songs have bland beats and suck the life from the end of the first half of the album
it plays better when you leave them out of the tracklist

The fun factor, chemistry between the MC's, the hooks, the flows and Production on Fantastic Vol. 2 is far SUPERIOR to The Listening which sounds like a semi-decent demo compared to the solid album Slum Village delivered.

C'mon this can't be for real!

As good as Fantastic Vol 2 is it actually isn't that ridiculous to go to The Listening....especially when you consider that the rapping is much better. That said its obvious why people would choose Fantastic as well...the rapping fits perfectly with CLASSIC beats..both are great albums anyway

As blasphemous as it sounds, I was always kinda meh about SV….the LB album and all the justus league stuff around that time really rekindled my interest and love for hip hop at that time.

I feel like I should go back and give Fantastic another chance, though...

but it can't be the better album?
That makes no sense.
F2 can't be untouchable strictly because of production.
People listen to music differently, I personally listen to TL way more these days.

I'm not big on 9th's production though. The production is not even close IMO. FV2 is far better production-wise. As always it's comes down to personal preference and 9th is is just a cool producer to me.

Opinion still stands.

Fantastic 2 by a little bit, not at all a landslide. It's mainly because of the production and some of the semi-classic lines, as well as the random appearances on it. The skits on both are funny, but The Listening ones tie into the album more.

The intro alone for Fantastic makes me say that though. The hooks are stronger on it as well..just better songs. But way more memorable verses on The Listening, and feels a lot more personal.

70. "the reason i say this"
In response to Reply # 65

is because i missed the listening

when i was in post secondary - i lost my music, stopping caring about it

in the 90s i had all the source and vibe magazines in a locked trunk

i had all the classic covers, all the death row ones, all of them

i laminated them all

when i went to post secondary i did 8 courses a semester for 2 years

it sucked the life out of me, i stopped caring about everything, my life was miserable, i even threw out all my magazines, and in that locked trunk was also a wooden wu tang symbol painted red my friend made for me in woodworking class

here on OKP it was like little brother this little brother that little brother this little brother that

i finally checked out minstrel show, and at first i was like tay's not the most technical MC but for some reason i want to listen to him

he reminds me of fresh prince a little bit in the way that he speaks to you in prose/narrative, and most rappers dont do that anymore, also pooh is dope

basically what im saying is that album brought music back to me

i could feel the warmth and soul coming out of north carolina from 9th, tay and rapper in a time when my life was cold

for that i'll never forget NC

michael jackson and jazzy jeff, fresh prince were pretty much the first two musics i gave a fuck about, i value minstrel show as much as those two, so take that as a compliment @phontigallo

too much nostalgia associated with that album for me, even if some of 9th's beats already sound "dated"

Dilla's beats on Fantastic sound as crisp as the first time i heard it
