..but I think J-Dilla had owned a few MPC's but not sure if they were 2000's though.
From what I heard Waajeed got one of his MPC 2000's, but I doubt Questlove broke any machine or a MPC owned by J-Dilla... unless he broke one after him & J-Dilla had a beat battle in his basement (you know that night when both of them blindly picked a record to make a beat and J-Dilla ended up with a Rick James record and made "Dooinit" out of "Give It To Me Baby".

he did. there was a disc stuck in it that Jay couldn't get out or didn't care enough to try to get out. (i guess the rumor is that you put it there). what happened next was that Jay told Jeedo he could have it if he could get the disc out. so Jeedo took it, was able to remove the disc and the rest is history.
that part is fact. i heard it from Waajeed at Waajeed's loft while we were standing in front of it. it was a definitely a 2000.

The reason I started to make music was Dilla. We would go out, get records and talk music theory. It's impossible to be around him without trying to get your weight up.
There was an MPC 2000 in his basement. He religiously used the MPC 3000. Well, ?uestlove broke a disc inside the 2000. Dilla said, "If you can get it out, you can take it to crib and keep it." I got it out, made three tracks that weekend, left them there to see what he would say. He called me like, "Goddamn, dog! You made that shit!?" For him to say that meant a lot.
His brilliance was never realized on a pop level the way a lot of other people were. He was so far ahead of his time. I think he should be remembered as one of the most brilliant producers on this planet.
