I'll check it out for the DVD part that's about it. The rest is just an attempt to repackage a classic album and sell it one more time.

"It Ain't Hard To Tell" remixes.

Yeah yeah, I know they're out there in some form or fashion but I want official, CDQ mixed and mastered versions.

Would be cool to have a version of "I'm a Villain" the same way.

Kinda related: were these Nas vocals used anywhere else? Are these from 2004 or 1994 (particularly the 2nd and 3rd verses):

Releasing a properly mastered 2 disc set as originally intended would address the one glaring issue with Nas' discography. We could pretend Nastradamus never happened!

Would it sell, though? Maybe the window of opportunity was a tenth year anniversary release?

Obviously nothing sells in today's climate but I think a release of that original double would be something they could definitely market and most people who were around at tbat time would purchase to add to their collection.

Shoot a crazy video for Amongst Kings even.

The second disc is what I wanted with the 10th Anniversary edition, which I passed on. The 20th Anniversary would be an essential purchase if it was packaged with the documentary, but it's not.

Yeah….I think most diehard Nas fans have this shit already..but maybe for the people who don't. Yes, where is "Understanding"? That's one of the best songs from that era. Also, have you seen the cover of this? It looks like Odd Future took a shit on Nas….so bad.

Who approved that garbage? 20th anniversary and that's the best they could do to commemorate the album? With all these artists and designers with actual talent available they go with the concept of someone's doodles defacing the original cover? Someone needs to be shot over this bull.

Yeah, Columbia released one right before or after he went to Def Jam. included Surviving the Times and the song with Cee-lo that I can't remember the name at the moment. Really, Nas album songs are generally better than his singles tho.

Out of all the greatest hits albums, the Essentials series is one I actually like.

The Sly Stone and Leonard Cohen are both favorites of mine.

Bob Dylan's is quality too.

A little disappointed with the Nas track list but it's not terrible.

Just checked the tracklisting and that ain't bad at all, quite a few Lost Tapes tracks, still think Essential should include Ether tho.

Either way, I would think they should have included "Understanding", but I'm not even sure a mastered version of that exists.

I thought "Life Is Like A Dice Game" was part of his demo. I could be wrong though. Lyrically it sounds like it could have come shortly his debut. "Understanding" is another gem that could have been included. With that said, this reissue isn't worth the money. If you own illmatic, there's really nothing on here you must have. I'm sure a better package could have been put together. I mean, does illmatic really need to be remastered?

Take out the useless remixes, add stuff that didn't make the second & the Def Jam releases, then put the doc for Illmatic=everyone buys it.

it's funny how Nas' good too bad song ratio is much higher than your good to bad OKP post ratio.

other thing worth noting is that posts on OKP is the extent of your existence.

Usually when people do anniversary editions they package it with some unreleased material, some b-sides, etc. I don't mind him doing one. I just think it was poorly executed. There is a lot of illmatic era material that could have been remastered for this occasion. Most of the stuff here is available on other CDs already.

Wait for the 25 year anniversary and do a 4 disc package

Disc 1 - Remaster of original album
Disc 2 - Outtakes, Official remixes, etc.
Disc 3 - New album with the same exact format...9 songs and an intro with the same producers in the same order and an AZ feature.
Disc 4 - Documentary DVD

I agree that if you're going to do it...you should go all out and make a definitive package.

And maybe I'm ignorant thinking that Disc 3 could happen but at this point in their careers, I don't see how it's not a win for everyone involved. And it should be relatively easy to create. Keep everything the same as far as the format. Shit, update the concepts if you want.

Man I stopped even thinking certain shit can happen.

There are decisions made that make no damn sense.

There's always some industry bullshit going on.

The fans tell these cats exactly what they want and they just don't to it plain and simple.

How long have people talked about this Nas/Primo album? There were magazine covers dedicated the idea.

Yet it's 2014 and we haven't seen the album and probably never will.

What's the point? Are the albums recently released selling that much more?

Fans want an Nas/AZ collabo every album yet AZ hasn't been on an album since Stillmatic. Oh but we see pics of them in the studio.

It's like they do the exact opposite of what the fans want.

And I get it...it's not always about what the fans want and the artist should create what they want but come on. Nas really thinks Summer On Smash is a better record to cut than a Primo banger or an ill AZ collabo?

I wanted to make a post about artists who were able to grow artistically while maintaining their fan base but never did. But that's what the goal should be. I get you dont want to make the same album and the fans don't want to hear the same album but you can't just go in the complete opposite direction.

Went to the record store (don't have a vinyl copy) thinking this would be a 2 LP set but NOPE. Should have done some research. The LP is just the remaster w download card for the second disc. FYI although I'm sure most of y'all are more on top than me. Paid $3 more for the OG.

I thought so. Sounds great and that cover is pretty much iconic at this point. Gripped one of the split-color vinyl copies of Operation : Doomsday as well so all-in-all I was good.
