Why is it genius that 1 guy sampled Donny Hathaway and the next guy may have sampled the guy that sampled the other original. Or they just both came with the same chop (i think it was the former). But forreal why does it matter? Neither are Donny Hathaway.
I dont see it lazy at all, getting mad at something that is just weird and very hiphop.

in Iman's case his is a sample + him playing live synth over it, the producer acknowledged he sampled him on Twitter. but the drums dude put over it for this? and the mix??? horrrrible.
and on the TOKi track you can tell they chopped (or looped, really) her chop that beat's not as bad as the "West Savannah" though, but still not as creative, nor interesting, as TOKi's song
its just a weird trend of sampling other people's beats that i think is pretty lame especially when I'm sure both Iman (who has worked w/ TDE before) and TOKi would've been down to work on the project themselves
The production on this is incredible. I would love to hear Nas do an album with the TDE production team; that would really magnify his voice and his storytelling.
Anyway, I like Isaiah's voice a lot. Still need to give it more spins to process the lyrics, because I get caught up in how it sounds so much that I don't listen enough to what he's actually saying. But I've definitely enjoyed it so far.
