I find them a pair of human meat mittens hanging within the music industry.

All of them look up to the two. Been in a room with a bunch of black women when a Beyonce song come on?

I don't know if they are musically influential but definitely culturally.

but Jay-Z very much laid the blueprint for how a rapper could attempt to "say some things" from within the confines of attempting to make pop records with The Blueprint and all the scattered great songs across the three mediocre-to-good Volumes. He was also consistently driving the conversation of what sounded hot, whether it was Swizz Beatz or Timbaland or Just Blaze or Kanye West or Scarface or UGK. Not all of those things were useless before Jay - many of them far from it - but he made them, particularly Just and Ye, larger than life just by association with him.

(all youngins these days are obsessed with being rich and famous) and at the top of the food chain in their respective genres, and have held that top spot for several years. add in the fact that they dominate pop culture, and there u have it.
