...Alchemist's sweet spot is teaming with more-than-serviceable emcee on a short, tightly produced piece of work. He loses me when a bunch of average to below average rappers bring down his production, even when it is stellar (see: Russian Roulette).

i dunno if i can agree with this...while ALC def did his thing compared to his previous work on the mic,i can't say he's really out shining EV...i'd say they were about equal,which was a pleasant surprise given my expectations

fair enough...perhaps my initial bias against ALC on the mic worked against him (too many "under the hood like a mechanic" drops perhaps?)...but he def came into his own here rocking alongside EV...

I saw him 4 or 5 years ago in New Orleans with Alchemist. My boy and I really went to see Alc. We brought a few buddies that weren't into hiphop as much as us. They LOVED EVIDENCE that night. I came away impressed myself. He does nothing for me on wax though, bland and boring.
they both were kind of invisible on this album. not bad, but nothing memorable.
I think Alchemist was riding a good wave because it was like ohh shit Al can rap? his lines were funny, he stayed on beat and had a good voice. here I kinda needed him to step his bars up
Evidence was just relying too much on the tone of his voice. what is he even rappin' about most of this record
the best verses (unsurprisingly) are: Styles P, Raka, Blu, Bronson, Oh No and Domo

It bangs so incredibly hard in the whip and Evidence's boring ass rhymes don't sound so bad when you amp up the volume. However, there's a lot missing on this release. I wish they did it Jay Lib style with Ev on the beats and ALC on the rhymes and vice versa.
Of the shits ALC has done over the last two years, this and possibly Covert Coup (which I did enjoy) are my least favorites. But again, all this LP made me want more of is ALC rhyming over his zaniest shit.

it's tucked away in the corner of my iphone that i don't visit (along with both roc marci albums that dropped last year). just haven't been in the mood. but i know i'm missing out.

I know they're different concepts, but I was really hoping this would hit me hard. I dig it, no question. It's a great record. I still play RTJ a few times a week, this just doesn't have the same hold on me. Maybe I shouldn't compare the two. I guess just because they're both sets of two friends who put an album out together.
