"Is Burial the biggest artist of the last 40-50 years to have NO video co..." Thu Jan-09-14 05:33 PM by amplifya7
Dude has 0 music videos, 0 live performance videos, 0 video interviews, nothing. Anytime he releases anything its all over the indie music blogs, he's got 700,000 last.fm listeners, collaborated with one of the biggest rock stars of the past few decades (Thom Yorke) as well as other big name acts (Massive Attack, Four Tet).
Can you think of another solo artist or instrumentalist that comes close but has no video whatsoever?
"Is Burial counter-culture by not creating video content? "
My post was sorta implying the opposite...I've heard "Untrue" being played in a coffee shop (Funny story, it was when I had first released the hectic zeniths album and was trying to promote it...I went up to the Barista to say "You like Burial? Check this out..." But before I could get to saying I had an album, he tried to be slick and say something to the effect of "Yeah it's my ipod playing, you're amazed someone else knows Burial?" As if to say, Burial is obvious/mainstream, I shouldn't be surprised to hear it in a coffee shop...lol.

changes in technology, i.e. the ability to produce music sitting at a computer, and the NEED for video content to gain fans?
Like...are people less impressed by music since it can be made sitting at a computer, so they need to buy into an image that goes with it and validates it?

Like, don't get me wrong, I LOVE the fact anyone can create music...it's nice having an art medium that doesn't require hundreds if not thousands of dollars to dive into.
But it wasn't an impossible bridge to climb; the thousands (shit, maybe millions) of guitar/bass/drum bands that have existed is a testament to that fact. The way the tech has changed is now its easier to just put it out...same way Drake will leak new songs through his soundcloud so can you too! My youtube page isn't any different then Gaga's (besides god awful images everywhere)
Because of this, everyone has to become a part time PR person, even if they've got a team behind them, in hopes of getting heard. While the Industry Illumanati believers swear that its all about payola...looking at how many monied acts I get spam from in my blogging email tells me its not that easy. It's extremely hard work AND luck on top of whatever else is working in the background (payola, sexual favors, lol).
So you've gotta sell yourself or something to make it stick on the consciousness...it can' be just a great song because shoot, there are like 100 great songs getting uploaded right at this second across a variety of platforms. Its about making a connection, coming off cool, etc.

really liked the mystique but fuck it, better this than the dumb rumors of being Four Tet and the like
Burial saying that he was trying to recreate the classic aesthetic of music without a face from jungle / d&b's earlier days was kinda cool. The direct relationship between listener and the music without feeling like the music was interfered with by the creator soaking up all this recognition and fame and hype. I liked the idea, it would be cool if more people did that.

so a dark selfie and him writing some text isn't really anything that new. still no existing video content (video interviews, music videos, performances...etc.)
