"**CONFESSION WEDNESDAY**"

Damn it's been a minute. Let's see how this goes lol

- I listened to I think 5 new albums last year? Jose James, Yuna, JT, Mayer Hawthorne, Robert Glasper Experiment

- I think 5 was more than I listened to in 2012. My attention span for new music is so short these days

- I'm reading a book about Wynton Marsalis (Skain's Domain by Leslie Gourse).....it's kind of a dick suck lol. Like it's hard to get through it seems like such an unbiased overly complimentary opinion sheesh

- on the flipside, also going to re-read the Miles autobiography with Quincy Troupe. Loved the way this was written, even though Quincy was a huge fan, he was fair and even in his writing imo

- Anybody ever seen Quadron live? I'm 90% sure I'm going to their show with Mayer Hawthorne.....and I can't name one Quadron song

- Actually anticipating this KING album....hopefully it's out this year

- Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis are also purportedly producing a number of new tracks this year. Hello 2014!

And that's what could make it dope.

I'm doing good. End of the year kicked my ass. Got into a car accident with the whole fam. Luckily everyone came out well, but it really has set me back, and I think I'm still living with the trauma of it. Weird feeling. But still motivated and still doing so 2014 looks bright despite this ungodly cold.

How about yourself?

I've been in two car accidents in my life. Both times I was the driver and both times it left me too scared to drive for about six months. So I definitely know where you're coming from. Everyone was physically okay, I presume? Or, at least I hope so.

I've not had a car for about five years and I don't miss it one bit.

I'm just coasting along over here. There's a lot more to tell —family issues and shit— but who wants to hear that.

I had about a third of them previously, but man... That is one deep set. Bluesy, very Black old-time interspersed with fife/quills pieces.

KING’s 2013 Year In Review
December 31, 2013
Hello to our family, friends and fans old and new…
2013 has been an excellent year. As we look back over the highlights of the last twelve months we’re extremely grateful for the support of our loved ones near and far.

Some exciting KING news: We’re thrilled to announce our new partnership with Kobalt Music Group for the release of our full length album! The album is everything we’ve ever wanted it to be, and we’re so excited to have found a wonderful home for the record. You guys have been so awesome- we can’t wait to share it with you all. Stay tuned in 2014 for the official date!

This year was a great year in music for us- in March we released our most recent single ‘In The Meantime’, debuted it on KCRW & BBC Radio1, and we’re honored that it’s been listed as a top pick by NPR, The Guardian UK, Buzzbands LA and Soulbounce for 2013! We also had a great time working on some other projects as well- we started off the year by celebrating our first Grammy win through our work on ‘Move Love’ from the Robert Glasper Experiment’s Black Radio (Best R&B Album). We were invited and honored to participate in Red Hot & Fela, a tribute album to the great Fela Kuti, and had a blast arranging and recording our original take on Fela’s ‘Go Slow’ with Tom Lea contributing his talent on strings and Neal Pogue co-mixing the track. This year we also co-wrote and produced Bilal’s ‘Right at the Core’ from his recent release A Love Surreal, and appeared on background vocals on Aviici’s ‘Lay Me Down’ featuring Adam Lambert and the legendary Nile Rodgers, debuted as Rolling Stones’ #1 song on their playlist in their August print issue. In other 2013 music news, we officially became endorsed artists of Moog Music and Dave Smith Instruments. Stay tuned for future collaborations with these two legendary synth companies!

Our lovely supporters continued to spread the word and in 2013 KING was featured in Glamour, Ebony, Essence, and Billboard Magazines, The LA Times, The Chicago Sun-Times, Los Angeles Daily News, The Toronto Globe and Mail, and on the homepage of the GRAMMY website, among other great media outlets. We had a blast curating our own live show and performed our first residency in Los Angeles this June, and joined the brilliant Laura Mvula’s tour in September to bring our set to NYC, Philadelphia, Toronto, Chicago, and San Francisco. Moving into 2014, we’re so excited to announce that our first shows of the year will be Europe- January 15th in London at St. Pancras Old Church and January 18th in Amsterdam at the People’s Place. We’ve also been confirmed to perform at the 2014 Essence Festival in New Orleans, and we couldn’t be happier to get out and share our sound with the world. Keep up with us on our newly re-launched website, weareKING.com, for info on shows, news, photos and more- and be sure to add yourself to the KING mailing list to stay up to date!

With all our love, and with peace and many blessings to you and yours in 2014!
Paris, Amber, and Anita
KING
