"Rap clean version edits (clean) Best and Worst"

There's a few different kind of clean versions.

Different vocal versions:
Ice Cube - AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuGgD-eoCDM

Silenced or backward masked versions
N.W.A F**k Tha Police Clean
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9306jTZuU5k

Sound effect'ed versions:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxwlyV8QxZ4

I still say this is one of the worst ones:
Wu-Tang Clan - Shame On A Nuh
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vK2tOCSWf6M

Anyone got outstanding examples?

Between reverses on a dope joint or don't play it at all?

I will rock the reverses almost every time lol! I have actually banged that "Shame On A Nuh" version on our show, no hesitation. RTistic I know you not necessarily speaking about playing shit on air tho, so I'll cut you some slack lol.

The edited rap songs on there are hilarious, considering some 10-year-old is gonna call you a niggerfaggot over the headset if you make a layup. Just awkward seconds of silence, and the worst I can think of off the top of my head is Drake's "Over". They silenced shit that wasn't even profanity.

Don't You Know Part 2 (Clean Version)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BD2_3F18Xqs

That's "clean" with some reverses, but a completely different take and many different lyrics.

Shimmy Shimmy Ya (Studio Ton Remix)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xIhIO7NRopg

Another unique vocal version, with many curses silenced.

Ol' Dirty Bastard: Give It To Ya Raw (SD50)
http://www.discogs.com/Ol-Dirty-Bastard-ODBEP/release/323143

Not clean, but different vocals.

Ol' Dirty's Back
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tp7jXJPIKYs

Is another completely different version too.

When I heard the album version I was almost disappointed because it seemed like cursing for the sake of cursing.

The runner up is probably Still Dre.

It's a hilarious radio edit, but it really works for the song.

Primo has great radio edits. I can't think of any off the top of my head though.

You're such pests...now, what is it you want? In your depths of your ignorance, what is it you want? Well, whatever it is you want, I can't deliver because I just don't see it. - Orson Welles

The clean version of "How's it Goin Down?" and "Ruff Ryders Anthem" have more energy than the album versions.

What these "Dog bark" want from "Dog Growl." That's the greatest.

"One Mic" has better lyrics:

"See my name in the Hieroglyphs, like Osiris and Isis, parables written inside papyruses" instead of "Writing names on my hollow tips, plottin sh*t, mad violence, who Im gon body, these hood politics"

The absolutely braindead decision to edit the outro adlib of "that's all I really need, fuck cash" by removing "fuck", leaving "that's all I really need--cash." LOL always hated that.

And the Sadat lines that replaced the "Freak fly flow, fuck up a faggot" part are much more memorable.

I play it...ESPECIALLY the 3rd verse bridge "Give it up, throw it up!!" The drums don't drop out on the clean version. That part adds a LOT to it.

In response to Reply # 0

when I was younger, I got clean versions of albums...the clean version of Aquemini, for example, had no skits (no complaints from me about that part), and songs were shortened for reasons I can't figure out. I know "SpottieOttie..." ends early, and "Liberation" ends abruptly after Erykah's verse, so no Rube whatsoever (maybe his verse got cut for the whole "white devil" ideology, I don't know...).

Speaking of the DF, on the clean version of Even in Darkness, "Forever Pimpin'..." is just an instrumental (no exaggeration...no vocals at all, just the beat).

that had some real crazy edits on it. plus they removed "Kim" to put "Kids" on there, which was basically an ode to Cartman and mushrooms and thus kind of a hilarious fuck you to censors by making a song directly targeted at children that would probably ruin them worse than "Kim" ever could.

In response to Reply # 30

The clean version of Biggie's "Life After Death" was only one disc. Didn't know it was a double disc until a couple years later.

Puffy's "No Way Out" omitted four tracks AND most of the skits/interludes but "Been Around The World" was about a full minute or so longer and "Can't Nobody Hold Me Down" has an intro thats an extra 4 or 8 bars (can't remember) along with different hooks in different places. Busta's chorus isn't on Victory nor is the "its all fucked up now" outro. There are a bunch of other differences between the clean and dirty versions of that album.

Dr. Dre's 2001 just had the instrumental for Pause 4 Porno. Which kinda makes sense. How do you edit that?

Stack chips like Hebrews is edited out of both album versions....

"I Got The Power" - the beat is different on the edited one, although the it head-scratchingly plays the sound of a woman being pleasured, if I remember right, hahaha.

I think Can't Nobody Hold Me Down is shorter on the unedited version because of the album length - the whole song simply wouldn't fit on the CD.

Also, the editors left in the word Shit during Puff's verse on Don't Stop What You're Doing.

I listened to this album way too many times...Hah.

48. "2Pac had different vocal versions on a lot of his singles"
In response to Reply # 0

Especially his Death Row era stuff:

2 of Amerika's Most Wanted (slightly different beat too)
Pour Out a Little Liquor
How Do U Want It (different 3rd verse)
I Ain't Made At Cha (different 3rd verse)
To Live & Die In L.A.
All About U (solo version, more verses)

50 Cent had two radio edits of "Window Shopper". On one he was dissing Fat Joe, Jadakiss, Ja Rule and Nas in the chorus. "Jada, yous a window shopper...", etc.

The radio edit of "Bling Bling" removes Turk and adds Lil' Wayne to it.

"Daytona 500" by Ghost had the car sound effects.

On Jay-Z's "Big Pimpin'" he has a different vocal version for his verses but UGKs verses are just blanked out. Jay also added a verse.

Keith Murray's "Get Lifted" added a chorus to the radio edit in addition to having different vocals.

Redman's "Pick It Up", in addition to being a remix with a different beat, has Red doing vocal effects to edit the curses.

The radio edit of Jay's "Ain't No Nigga" is way better than the album version.

The radio edit of Wu's "C.R.E.A.M." is WAAAAAAAAAAY better than the album version.

Slick Rick's Knock 'em Out The Box Mix of "Children's Story" is better than the album version in my opinion. There were a few minor changes that somehow made it better.

And of course all of DJ Premier's radio edits are great, especially "F.A.Y.B.A.N.". He should have gotten a Grammy for that.

The first wave of Dre and Snoop clean re-recorded versions were dope, and I love the Wu versions. I did a full re-edit with sound effects of Enter The 36th Chamber and the re-recorded version that sounds pretty dope if I do say so myself.

Jigga's Reasonable Doubt era tracks sounded dope as clean versions - Can't Knock The Hustle, Dead Presidents and Feelin' It sounded dope as hell.
