organized noize are the best production unit in hiphop history. over dj premier in his prime and i'm putting them over dr. dre ((<<<<so many ghost producers for dre. a bunch!). not a better production unit than ONP. not dj muggs, not the bomb squad, not prince paul, not madlib, not dilla, not the ummah.
i started as a day 1 outkast fan / cassette single / bought the album the day it dropped.
if you haven't studied Southernplayalisticaddilacmuzik and heard it at least 20 times from front to back, we can't talk or debate. (i probably heard it 200 times since it was released or some sht. lol). that is the starting point. remember the equipment. sp1200 era and mpc60ii/mpc3000 era. listen to the production on that album. they incorporated live instrument players (bass, guitar) on songs back Then (93-94). listen to the drum samples (one shots. kicks, hi hat, snares. tapped them drums out. wasn't just taking loops.) listen to how the drums were EQ'd and snapped. listen to all the different programming patterns. then the sample chops and flips? if there was a instrumental version of Southernplayalistic released it is a production clinic. and musically... musicality wise? it's a perfect balance.
that's just the first record they produced entirely. then u got SoulFood, which is another sonic masterpiece, and i don't even need to continue.
premier in his prime had dope chops and some hard drums and the ill ass scratch choruses. dilla had a million neoSoul and hiphop producers bite his whole style. madlib made abstract shit cool and popular. dr. dre picked the best people from the west to work together with to formulate one of the most influential west coast styles of all time (all them ghost producers tho (daz, mel man, quick, battlecat, a grip of other dudes and even tupac called him out on that shit a few times too!) but organized noize were progressive, different, advanced , and trend setting all at the same time.
i remember when the Love Movement album came out how it was getting Bad reviews and critics were Dissing the production. also questioning Consequence involvement.

the ummah, all due respect, ain't fucking with ONP. ONP = level 10. Ummah was a dope unit, even tho some jerking was going on (Dilla said this shit in audio interviews and written interviews more than once. he was making the beats, folks was thinking qtip was producing, money and production credit was kind of funny --------) but ONP was a notch up.
