"wack west coast production from the late 90's..."
Sat Dec-21-13 01:35 AM by srhsrhsr

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmtVnA8KixA

heard this for the first time in a long time...
no, it wasn't playing anywhere. (lol)
just came up on random.
can anyone else picture re-run and the gang dancing at the carwash with big goofy grins on their faces to this?
this beat is capital W-A-C-K.

aged horribly.

likewise for this...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDnMAfgclKo

i'm reminded of a bunch of 50 year old white guys with goatees and sideburns playing smooth jazz on casio keyboards in an airport lounge.

and yes, i know the samples behind both of these.
(...as if that somehow is going to legitimize them)

some things just aren't meant to rap over.
despite the fact that you can, technically, rap over them.

---
i just want to opine in peace.

damizza was a lame ass whiteboy. only reason he got put on was because he was an exec at the #1 l.a. radio station
his beats were bubble gum pop-hop. there was nothing west coast sounding about them other than the artists rapping over it. dude was from santa barbara lol.
chucky thompson did the other beat.... obviously not west coast
furthermore these songs were made at a time when the west coast sound was undefined
i dont look back at rap from the 2000s and think "oh that was the west coast sound"

I think of this type of shit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nPQBw-kghEE

ugh.

I'll take west coast production over east coast all day, too. But that time period was full of a lot of cheap, disposable sounding shit.

where i wanna be was released in december 2000, and wiki says it was recorded in june 2000, which makes sense given the release date.

until we rich was released in late '99.
