"Carlos Santana do you like his Playing or do you like"

his music on a whole? i ask because some folks only like his trademark tone and playing and feel his music is soft and predictable stuff, whereas when he is playing and or playing with someone else he tends to shine more.

do you feel he has made timeless albums or do you mainly just dig to hear him play?

i genuinely do love a lot of his catalogue, specially the stuff from the early-mid 70's which was part of my formative years when i first started to 'really' focus & listen to music and full albums as a whole....a great tapestry of stuff there for sure...

but,

if given a choice, for me, its really his PLAYING that i could listen to all day any day....especially live....his playing itself is the real magic for me, thats where his spirit & emotional expression are MOST tangible and potent if you ask me...

have you listened to
her stuff?

He knew how to go all out with CARAVENSERAI and the almighty LOVE DEVOTION SURRENDER but he also knew how to create a pop hit. He became more poppy in the mid to late 70's, which freaked those who loved his exploration in the first half of the decade. That pop side returned in a major way 20 years later.

Santana can still play, but he is very comfortable in what he does because he knows that is what will bring in the royalties. Who doesn't want a SUPERNATURAL as a part of their catalog? Who doesn't want an "Evil Ways", "Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen" or "Oye Como Va"? I hate "Smooth" and "Game Of Love", but then again I also have access to 22 of his album with Santana, his Devadip solo albums, work he did with John McLaughlin and Alice Coltrane so no one should worry. Not many artists who released their debut album in 1969 can celebrate that fact in 2014.
