... I have two headphones who collectively cost almost as much as one pair of beats, and both by quality standards are way better cans than those beats.

You can get way better cans for half the price. They just don't have that iPhone fashion accessory look which I believe has helped Beats tremendously.

that is true because they had to pay license and clearence fees, studio,etc.. and when all the money was paid off and divided to lawyers, etc.. it was good loot and enough to get some nice things, however nothing like this loot. the loot he is getting off those headphones is more than he got off the chronic, Snoop and Pac and the death row era combined pretty much.

just like Puffy made more money in a year off the Booze than his bad boy hey day. not bad money however chump change compared to what he got now

And how "big" and "clean" and high-quality he can get his music to sound.......it just makes it hard to believe that his headphones aren't good.

When they first came out I was going to get some just because I figured they can't miss. Dre's sound quality is always top notch, why wouldn't his headphones be?

But I've heard/read a lot that they really aren't that good. Still have never tried them for myself.

I can say, the light weight DJ Mixr ones are the best when it comes to DJing...but that's absolutely it. They are way too tight, loud, and uncomfortable to use on an airplane or anywhere in public. But they're super light weight and clear/loud enough to use in the club.

As for the other models, it's where they sound good enough to the average person to actually sell since the marketing is so amazing on them. Shit, it's really all about marketing anyway when it comes to REALLY making profit with these type things. The colors and look of them are way more important than the sound to the average young kid out there who doesn't know decibels or how "clear" really sounds.

YEP.. soon as I knew the players involved..

We sat with monster probably like 2006. They were trying to pitch Kanye's manager (whom we were signed to) on HD AUDIO DVD. They had this idea for live dvds that you could control the sound source i.e. I want to hear what it sounds like in front of the crowd or at the control booth or behind the drummer.

Cool idea but eehh no one was like super into it..

As we were leaving they had all their consumer product stuff displayed (laptop covers, ipod covers, bags) etc.. and it was all dope as shit. Just immediately great looking stuff.

After I heard Jimmy did the deal I was like MAN he thought the same thing I was thinking.

They had the distro and jimmy had the biggest artists of the time in his pocket. He basically made the ultimate ipod/iphone accessory.

Now lets see what happens with Beats Music

They're heeeella uncomfortable to wear on your head as regular headphones after 15-20 minutes, and too noisy to wear in public....but they're extremely light and perfect just for mixing while DJn.

but I didn't know they would become like a fashion statement with people rocking them even when they don't have any music to listen to with them. The amazing thing is how influential and successful Dre has become really just based off of music. No clothing line, sneakers, vodka...He's been in a couple of movies but nothing all that notable. His whole persona, fame and music is based off of music so I certainly think that would happen.

i love his vision tho, every other rapper saturated the market w/ clothing lines or liquor tie ins...he was like naw, lemme go full lux w/ $300 headphones.

the balls it takes to really go with that idea at THAT price point with his core audience?

thats a major gamble & i will admit to totally being shocked it worked...but it damn sure did...kudos to him

does it even matter?

the people love the shit..

I boycott all things Dre until he releases Detox. All the headphones he sold he has no reason to put out an album. That's what really keeps pushing it back.

waaaaaaaay, way way easier...less pressure, and has been making him a whole lot more money. Making the album, he has the stress and pressure of knowing it HAS TO BE a true classic. And shit, he's finished it 4-5 times but scrapped each one because it just wasn't strong enough. Headphones are way easier to get that $$ in, and he's already proven himself in music...why not do this?

making money reigns supreme..its sacrilege to second guess someone making money.. but his music will outlast those shitty headphones by a long shot.

making music gives his fans a feeling, an experience.. making headphones just gives him money. money isn't even real. fuck money
