"Can we talk about Race Music?"

I know only a few people on here have listened to the Armand Hammer album but let's chop it up.

Bonus points if you heard Elucid's "For Madmen Only" because it is not hard to hear the connections between the two even though they are totally different.

The run in the middle of the album, of "No Roses" to "Duppy" to "Hand Over Fist" to "Where the Wild Things Are" is phenomenal. Those all blew my wig back. Man, the beat on "Hand Over Fist" is crazy, and I've never really been a huge fan of Creature, but he's ill as fuck on there.

Other favorites are "Frog and Toad are Friends," "Cloisters," and "Kanun."

And I said it in another post, it's fucking bizarre to hear Billy Woods as the "normal" guy in the group.

I hope they tour. I missed Woods out here in the Bay, mostly because the show was announced at the last minute.

There is not a bad beat on here but I really felt like Marmaduke and Messiah stole the show.

Elucid's verse on White Lies is one hell of an album closer.

"People's Temple" off For Madmen Only is one of my favorite songs of the year. The way the beat builds is exciting.

Also, since we're talking about Cult Favorite, have you heard either of AM Breakups instrumental albums? He also has a longer project in the works right now with vocals.

As for Armand Hammer, for me, Small Pro murdered Half Measures with that beat for Blank Verse, but so did Messiah Musik. I didn't care for Uncommon Nasa's beats, as they were just too busy for me. And the Omega 3 remix had to really grow on me (even now it's just okay, esp considering that the OG and AM Breakups remix have far superior beats.)

On Race Music, though, every beat sounds great. Marmaduke, Messiah Musik (my two favorite songs), Steel Tipped Dove, AM, Willie Green, and even Uncommon Nasa. It's great to hear Busdriver and Open Mike Eagle on this project. Billy and Elucid are perfect together. Similar enough to work well together, yet different enough to stand out from each other. For me, tracks 8-13 are the peak of the album, though not the only dope joints.

Have not heard the Breakups albums but loved Madmen. Might actually prefer Breakups beats on there to the ones on RM.

Funny though, Im clearly alone in thinking the beginning and end of the album are the strongest.

Slowly became one of my favorites. Messiah Musik made a fan out of me on this joint.

Anyone know what else he has done?

He has like 26 beat tapes on datpiff.com. He also produced three songs on quelle Chris' ni**as is men (including addiction cycles, my fav song). He also produced shark fin soup and cloisters (obviously) and Patra off Half Measures.

They both had solid releases earlier in the year which could easily rank in the top hip-hop releases for the year. In a steel sharpen's steel sort of way this joint just seemed to take each of them up a notch even farther. So much of the album is surprising even though it would seem like us fans should know what we were gonna get. All in all just got me mad amped for the shit coming next year.

Yeah. I usually don't get the sound of woods until a few spins then I become full blown addicted and at this point, with race music, he's maybe pound for pound my fav mc going.

I didn't like half measures that much. Felt mixtapey. Suppose that's what it was,

Interesting analysis because I feel like half of the fans say they still prefer their solo work this year to Race Music. I don't think I agree but it's close. Their solo album (especially DC) are "easier" listens but I'm not sure they are top to bottom better.

Race Music is such a dense listen I don't even feel comfortable ranking it yet...

So far I've enjoyed the first half more, but that's probably because I'v heard it more.

This might sound weird because I'm such a huge fan of both...but I don't think I'm **as** big on them as a duo as others.

Think I prefer each of them solo...
