"What was the consensus on Dead Prez R.B.G. album?"
I remember when this was coming out they got 4.5 mics in the source. The remix of Hell Yeah with Jay-Z was a big deal at the time. The album got pushed back and I don't think I remember it selling to well. The production was way different from anything coming out of NY at the time. They went for the more west coast sounding gangsta production IMO and it came together for the most part.

The whole album was cool... had a more laid back vibe than "Let's Get Free" and didn't seem as urgent, musically, but the message was still the same. Listening to that kind of message so laid back and chill is a weird mix tho.

There was a sizable Lesson backlash against the lines about killing a pizza delivery dude. This was big deal on The Lesson, and it got brought up in general discussions of DP over the years.
DP was trying to build a more mainstream following and switched up their sound/ content/ promotion, around the same time or shortly after a lot of other rappers rejected conscious/ political/ alternative labels with meek hamfistedness. DP also dropped mixtapes that were sort of divisive on The Lesson. And as others have said, the record was delayed and altered.
It seems like LGF was similarly delayed, with Hip Hop banging everywhere, and multiple release dates and live shows and buzz. It seemed very constructed, but LGF wasn't really a follow up to anything but a buzz single.
I loved all of the content they dropped around RBG, and I'd love to hear that pre-release version again, as well as the mixtapes (RBG Radio).

They could have just sat and listened to the music. If you do that, than DP is among the more consistent duos in rap over the past 15 years...they don't put out enough, but all their work -- albums, mixtapes, have been at least "good" and usually more than that

I wore that album out when it came out, I thought it was dope. Plus I was definitely on that 'fuck the system' tip too at the time and I fucked with most of what they were saying..
