"what kept Gwen Stefani from blowing way up?"

now no dount was big, they ain't dead, however it ain't like Fergie and B.E.P didn't steal some of that thunder either at a time and point.

if handled the right way musically Stefani should have had a Lady Gaga type of run don't you think?

or a Pink run.

she was big, however not long term big as she could have been does that make sense?

wjere come down on gwen stefani as a artist? overrated or underrated?

also no doubt?

I know she did her solo thing but then didn't she get married & have kids? And didn't No Doubt go a real long time between albums?

and I don't know enough about Ska/pop-punk to compare and contrast No Doubt's body of work to similar bands

But two things I can say for sure are:

1. Tragic Kingdom is a super iconic/classic 90's albums and still holds up today...definitely millions of people around 23-33 years old still know the almost whole album by heart

2. I like just about every single ever released by ND or Stefani

Probably because she aint realize that while rock band fans aren't so fickle and will tolerate, to a certain extent, a mini hiatus...anything more then a year and a half in the pop world=you've been dead.

or any of the other chicks that sorta cashed-in off her absence once she semi-walked away after 06/07.

Her band (which she was only a part-time player in to begin with before her brother killed himself) blew up back in the day.

She took the opening that Eve/Dre song gave her & launched a seven-times-platinum solo album based off other styles of music she'd grown up on in Long Beach, which birthed her a clothing line and even the scraps from that album was enough to cobble together another double-plat album and tour.

I think after that she just wanted to concentrate on having a couple kids, making money off her fashion line, generating some tour money for her old band & by her own admission she's not a very prolific writer unless in pain so she's been pretty quiet.

Overall though she did her thing, oddly enough trying to revive No Doubt might have been the thing that deaded her run of major commercial relevance but it was the right thing to try to do.

At this point with her being mid-40s I think she'd rather grow old doing summer-shed tours with the band & raise kids then keep trying to hang on with what's hot on the solo tip like Madonna hooking up with Timberland/Timberlake in S-&-M gear.

On some "strike while the iron's hot" shit. I tried to go through it recently when I was creating a new playlist for my phone, and couldn't bring myself to add anything from this album.

She did blow up. She just went away and lived that family life.

L.A.M.B (2004) sold over 4 MILLION records

Sweet Escape (2006) sold over 1.7 MILLION records to date

She's 2/2 as far as record sales are concerned...

Kinda feels bizarre to me. People here like No Doubt? I'm surprised.

And Maxxx? It surprises me that you don't levy the ole turkey routine on her. I mean, what exactly can she do? She can't sing, can't dance, can't write lyrics....I must be missing something.

i heard they developed organically and just happened to make a few records that millions of ppl like after they were signed to a major label deal. as far as i know they have one of those old fashioned Rock N Roll success stories.

i understand some Rockists have a problem w/them b/c their most famous records sound like a bastardization of some previously underground(ish) genres and subgenres. but i haven't heard that they're a creation of any corporation.

fuck you.

Nah...they started out as a California college band...They were indeed an alternative act early on...

And yeah...they blew the fuck up...But No Doubt were far from some corporate band...They just became huge and over saturated the market, which is not exactly new within pop/rock music....
