how Snoop has achieved longevity by just switching it up and never being stale. He started west, went south, crushed some r&b, went reggae, and now delving deeper into funk. He's obviously a great personality, which helped him remain relevant, but considering he ran out of things to say lyrically like a decade ago, it's great that he remained in the public eye just by being willing and able to leave his comfort zone a bit and remain fresh and creative.

or it's just where he's drawing his inspiration from

as in like the soulquarians drew from 70s soul and funk, Dam draws from the 80s shit

i personally don't like the music, but I did like this performance

the smashing of the fetish "keyboard-guitar" was corny though

he sounds like he is forcing that schitt from an empty stomach through constipation: music/voice/persona/et al.

Same way Madlib be tryna force you into believin' he can PLAY because he has a platform to put that bullschitt out and a truckload of free jazz/brazilian records.

It's that invalid childhood theorem of: "I made a cape out of a towel now I can fly".

No, son.

Dam Funk cannot play the keyboard and he FREESTYLES these very small (licks) that SOUND SUPER DERIVATIVE of like some DJ Quick version (who may be a better musician than Dam Funk) of West Coast Electro-Funk.

UGH...just thinking about it gives me a gringe. (that's a teeth gritting cringe)

It's like, you ever hear somebody singing along with the radio and they THINK they sound good? But they schitt is all off key and wrong notes are just clashing.

All of his music is like that. ALL OF IT.

It's clear he "creates" his "songs" more than he practices his instruments.

Then there's the lyrics which are just the most horrid, cliche filled, jingoistic "hood love" type of simple.
As well as the singing which is -smh- talent show bad.

Dude must be a GREAT DJ because he's had carte blanche & the Peanut Butter Wolf Hype Machine behind his back.

It's the, OH..."YOU GOT A AD IN A MAGAZINE? Anybody that don't like you is just hating" theory.

Well some schitt needs some constructive criticism.

I can't believe musicians aren't like, "YO, let's get together and I'll show you some scales, well work on some chording, woopty woop, nah'msayin?"

I have heard, "Oh, he's the nicest guy".

Which IS GREAT. Good job buddy, but uhhh...WTF is you doing IN THE NAME OF FUNK?

I've been asking this schitt since DAY ONE when I "tried", I was in the car laughing my ass off at the schitt and ended up throwing one disc out the window it was so annoying.
My girl was like, "Do any of these song have ANOTHER part? They all just kind of go on and on and on.
I was like EXACTLY!

Yet... motherfuckers that grew up on Barry Manilow SWEAR he & his music are FUNKY.

He just one of them country ass L.A. cats that can hustle water to drowning folks.

Actually, his girl might have said it all because while ALL his points are valid, the one that nags me most is the failure of any of his "songs" to offer a second part. A bridge. A chorus. A shift in tempo. Modulation. Addition or subtraction of sounds.

Just the same monotonous groove playing groove playing on and on from beginning to eternity. Which would be trying with even the fattest, freshest , most original groove. But his riffs aren't even any of those things to begin with.

And the funny thing is that I thought that was the biggest problem with his (otherwise charming) Adolescent Funk tape. But you give him a pass because you figure he supposedly made those tracks in middle school. But almost 30 years later and he is still doing the same thing.

It was a damn shame what he did with Stevie Arrington's "comeback." That was a real squandered opportunity.

But yes, he seems to be a really nice guy, though . And he has nuff fans who enjoy what he does, so play on in peace!

You might be right but it doesn't really matter, I liked those songs, especially "Do My Thang" and I liked what Dam Funk did on these. Might he be a good musician or not, I like his sounds.

I see were you coming from but clearly this is supposed to be some G-Funk type of shit, its not like there're a ton of good musicians playing G-Funk.

and his voice fits to anything he tackles. Rap, R&B, Reggae, Pop, Country, heck if Snoop wanted to do Gospel he could pull it off.

and the scary part is that Snoop still got another tight project in him.
