"Let's talk about En Vouge"

For some reason these ladies have been running through my mind a lot recently.

I can't really say I was a fan of them, and I didn't own any of their records but going to a predominately Black school in the early 90s made it almost IMPOSSIBLE not to be familiar with them.

I'm not really a fan of R&B but I think anyone would a working set of ears can tell that they can sing their collective ass off.

More importantly, looking back it's almost shocking how Classy/mature they came off.

To be honest other than Rhianna/Niki Minaj I don't know what young Black girls listen to these days but it seems like it would be damn near impossible to try to market a group like this to them.

in today's climate. they were one of the last 'classic' type groups to me. they were on the tail end of the type of look and music. they caught fire.

today, they need to be more ratchet looking. they did have the drama for a reality show tho.

These ladies are great vocalists. Atlantic should have been giving them anything they wanted. These ladies should be millionaires. I would have given them a big contract to include group albums, solo albums, movie projects, and bringing in other artists to the label. And now with the internet, there music sales should be off the chain worldwide. Its not too late for the original members to regroup and get it going again.

In a better world, they would still be making music. They would have each had successful solo careers. They would have been successful actresses. They would have their own multi-media companies. Fashion lines, make-up/beauty companies, whatever they could've had, they should have them now.

Maybe it's not the world that needed to be better, but themselves. Their management. Or a better music industry that could have dealt with them not only as singers and artists, but as businesswomen, ladies who could have kept each other and themselves on track before things fell apart.

One can argue "wait now, they're still together" but it's not the original four. The core of what they were is not what they are now, and because of lawsuits, they can no longer get back that way without being an interruption of the function. In other words, it's a bit like Ace and Peter joining Gene and Paul for a true reunion of Kiss. Sadly, that will never happen unless it has to do with money that Gene Simmons doesn't need.

Look at Destiny's Child. Once someone else had a share of the spotlight, it was over for them. A song with a slightly louder vocal track? OH OH!

En Vogue made some great music, I prefer the first album over the second. I prefer their vocals in Foster + McElroy's "Gotta Be A Better Way". I loved Terri Ellis' solo album. Dawn Robinson could have been wicked as a solo artist. Maybe they each changed, maybe the industry didn't want what they felt was old, and not them as individuals, but a style, an essence, a substance. Which is funny, considering how the industry has made and killed millions based on substances.

they were happening when Boyz 11 Men was and they fell off. I mean TLC took their thunder and the problem with them is while they could sing and looked good, none of the chicks stood out as a Solo Lead act and you gotta have that Diana Ross/Beyonce in a group or you gonna be done and they barely made it a decade. they hit there peak and prime after there 2nd album as did tlc however En Vogue had no personna as a solo act.

I only own 1 album by EnVogue. Born To Sing
I gave the 2nd album to the Goodwill. Never Gonna Get was just an average song at best. Aretha Franklin cover was just OK.

Xscape had 3 better albums, and more songs that were good.
