did a search to see if i missed the convo on this record…

1 of my favorites of last year

samiyam is dope. dopest outta the "beat scene" cats to me.

him and ras g (back on the planet)…making really listenable and still somewhat out there (ras really out there).

some of the shit i think is straight pretension (dakim)

but samiyam….

thats the dopiest record that even his label doesn't seem to respect

Can I add Jeremiah Jae and Lorn to that list?

Of the beat scene, though, my favorite would have to be Mono/Poly. He's not focused enough, but, he has some heat.

Come to grips with the fact that most OKP's are of the Nut Hugger lineage, so, if you' re not part of the little cliques that exist 'round here, your posts will probably tank like Souljaboy's album sales.

his production just doesn't carry well on its own over 4 or 5 beats

his beats sound so refreshing and full when people rap over them. there's too much empty space IMO when the sit as instrumentals alone

just my opinion

I still say jonwayne has to be SOMEBODY'S cousin within the Stones Throw fold..

That's the only explanation I can come up with...

Jon is an ST artist, he's been developed by the label for the past 3-4 years. Sam is doing some work with them. not as close of a relationship at all.

I guess I'm still trying to understand the logic behind putting money behind jonwayne.

And, I don't want it to be misconstrued as hate. I've TRIED to like him. I've listened to almost everything he's ever released, but, NOTHING has EVER struck a chord or felt like more than just "sketches" of a beat.

Yup, the Sam Baker album was somewhat subpar, but, that final track? Sometimes?! Whoooooooooo!!!

I'm just saying, you responded in a manner as if my opinion was ludicrous and maybe of the minority, but, I just wanted to emphasize that I'm not alone or merely an outlier.

Either way, contrary to what you may believe, I DO have a selection of his beats that I like A LOT. I'm just not a fun of his full length releases.

I definitely think he has more potential for placing beats with mainstream rappers than anyone else on the beat scene. He has kind of an Alchemist feel at times.

So, no, I"m not just a wanton hater.

Someone's ALWAYS gonna hate it. But, I feel your viewpoint. I try to be the same, especially when everyone's bandwagoning some shit for reasons OTHER than the actual music.
