"Talib Kweli goes completely independent with Gravitas. #kweliclub"
Like Ryan Leslie did, Kweli has made a platform for people to buy & connect with him directly, and he dropping his 2nd album this year to intoduce it.
Here's the blurb from the site.
"Congratulations on your invitation to be a member of the exclusive Kweli Club. Please create an account to complete any purchase.
Your first purchase will activate your full membership and add you to my personal address book. All full members can hit me directly on email anytime. I have a dedicated account on my phone exclusively for you."
Kweli has seemingly been on an endless quest to get to a point like this. I'm happy for him. While his overall output has been a mixed bag (more positive than negative though, in my eyes, and his rhymes have never been a major issue, IMO), he's an artist I'll always support not only because I enjoy his rhymes and music but also because of the way he approaches his art and career. I'm curious to see what this album will sound like. Still haven't heard the majority of Prisoner of Conscience, it's on a loooooooooong and ever-growing list of 2013 albums I still need to hear, but once I get my shit straightened out these will be near the top of the list.
