people would think. Some DJ's HATE them and feel like they're taking their business..but not necessarily.
Most promoters who would actually book these type DJ's most likely have a super huge budget, and are getting them SOLELY for their name...so it's usually a lane I wouldn't even be in. And they aren't really that big of a draw like you'd think, either. Most of them (wack Celeb DJs) never really get big events, since some crowds could care less if it's Kid Capri, Lil Jon, Erykah, damn Bruce Willis, or...me...if the music is wack, they'll still boo em!
10. "RE: your take on celebs doing that?" In response to Reply # 4
I'm at a point where I assume that they might be decent before I write'em off. Now most often they're okay, sometimes wack, but every once in a while, you'll catch someone like BizMark who practiced enough to be a good party spinner with transition skills and good selection.
Talib Kweli was surprisingly decent when I caught him, and i actually came to hate on him, lol (my homie J Sands asked me to hang out with him that night). He ran a good eclectic set with good blends/ transitions.
I do get tired of the famous folk muscling in on real, working DJs' turf though. Just don't disrespect the craft is all I ask.

but then again it's not like she does it to be good at it I will say I've definitely heard worse though

8. "i wouldn't check most celeb DJ's, but i'd def. check out Badu" In response to Reply # 0
i'm actually kinda pissed that i missed her set at a local (VERY small) venue... i think most ppl who would check for non DJs doing dj sets aren't really in it for the art of DJ'ing, but probably more to kick it with an artist/celeb they dig and check what kind of night *they'd* like to have.. or at least that's why i'd go..
9. "To be real I liked Badu more than most so called real Dj's." In response to Reply # 8
I've seen Dj Spinna afew times wasn't feelin what he was playing he was ok overall.Rich Medina was alright typical old Skool set nothing special. Badu song selection was on point had me groovin the whole night. Pete Rock and Preem are dope also.
13. "yeaaaa.. see this is what i was thinking every time i saw her name" In response to Reply # 11
pop up as a DJ... also, i remember her Redbull Academy interview and i dug her swag when she was playing her records, chopping em up a bit and all of that... plus, Badu can really do no wrong in my eyes... i'm like permanently on her page, musically
15. "thers djin, and theres playin records" In response to Reply # 0
She was playin records.
I'd prolly go see a "celeb" play records just to see what type of music they dig vs. going to see a celeb "dj" so i can wanna throw tomato cans at them all night for being awful

17. "Good point. I'd say it depends on the party. Like Snoop is my fav" In response to Reply # 15
rapper, so I'd for sure be interested in what he has to play. Even his Wedding mix on Soundcloud is doooope....he has the best ear in Rap low key. But I wouldn't wanna go to a super hype kind of party with him as the main DJ. If it was a day party, Rooftop party, Brunch event, BBQ, etc etc that's different
and she sucked. No transitions, horrible mixing. She had a great eclectic choice of records to play but by the time she got done with one record you were excited about, she'd move on to another and you got confused as to what she was trying to do. If you're going to get into territory that's foreign to you at least be half-way decent.
