"Best Single Producer/Rapper Albums"

What are the best albums that are wholly produced and rapped on by one person? (Not 1 MC and 1 producer, which could be another post) I was just listening to El-P on Run The Jewels and got to thinking to how talented you have to be to really great at both.

Not the best producer that can rap, or the best rapper that can make beats. But dudes who could have a career just doing one or the other.

Can include guest verses.

Recent albums off the top of my head: El-P's C4C, Oddisee's People Hear What They See, and Roc Marciano's Marcberg

Bending the rules a little, I think Q Tip's The Rennaisance could count, because he produced 10/12 joints.

What are some others? Which is the best?

afterwards but also has the most great songs & works as a fully realized album.

Gimme this over Madvillian all day, I feel like the folks who say otherwise are either Madlib fans or heard Doomsday after the fact.

Also Grap Luva produced one joint on it "Half Man Half Amazing", while Pete Rock got co-producer credit.

This is another rap album that stays in my permanent rotation.

EVERYBODY was on that album too.....Ghostface, Raekwon, Prodigy, Method Man, Deck, Kurupt, MC Eiht, Common, Big Pun, OC, Thought, Kool G Rap, Large Professor, CL Smooth, Heavy D, Sticky Fingaz, Noreaga, etc.

And they all sounded right on home on their tracks too. Maybe the best guest list of MC's ever on an artist's album.

I love this album, it's in my top 20 favorite rap albums, even though many argue about it being an album but cause it only has nine songs and seven interludes, to me that's an album.

Also Lord Finesse produced all except for two, "Speak Ya Peace" was produced by Myke Loe, & "Actual Facts" (the bonus track) was produced by Jesse West & Myke Loe.

Kev Brown's "I Do What I Do" is in my top 10 favorite rap albums, it was on constant rotation for a year straight for me (I almost got burnt out on it but I still listen to it at least once a month), this album is straight dopeness from beginning to end, I even had to make a dexluxe version for myself with bonus tracks from 12inches, remixes, and a few songs he guest appeared on.

Kev produced every song except one which was produced by Roddy Rod, classic in my book.

Infact both Quasimoto albums are both rapped and produced by Madlib, I don't know why I forgot about these albums, I still listen to "The Unseen" at least once every other month, I listened to "Further Adventures Of Lord Quas" just two days ago.

KRS-One, Kenny Parker, D-Nice, D-Square, Pal Joey, reggae/dancehall producer Sidney Mills, & the rock group Decadent Dub Team were the production team on "Edutainment"; I don't think KRS-One has ever produced an album completely on his own.

All of Godfather Don's albums are all produced by him, and some of the best lyricism around, his last collection of songs "Donnie Brasco" wasn't that good; but his other albums "Hazardous", "Diabolique", "Nineties Session", & "Properties Of Steel: The Hydra Records Singles" are the essence of dope (early to late) 90's hip-hop .

He also did the production for The Cenobites material, he use to be one of my favorite producers for while.

Rashid Hadee was 1/2 of the North Carolina rap group Chapter 13, he was nice on the beats and even better lyricist; his beats were straight boom-bap even though the album with Young Valentine "Nevermore's Asylum" was better.

Those are the only albums where Erick Sermon did the majority of the production, the other albums are dope but were produced & had more than two songs produced by others than himself.

This kat got too many albums and keeps cranking them out, I'm not sure where he has the time to record but he's like Madlib but isn't pigeon held to releasing albums in the amount he does, I swear Moka Only releases a new album three to four times a year.

His rhymes are okay, rambles and panders a lot but his beats are usually dope & jazzy.

I'll say his music started becoming good in 2001 but he's been releasing stuff beforehand, officially I only have five of his releases in physical form ("Lime Green", "Lowdown Suite", "Desired Effect", "Airport", & "Carrots & Eggs") but have about five or six more that I downloaded ("Dirty Jazz", "Station Agent", "Airport 2", "Vermilion", "Martian X-Mas 2011", & "Barbecued Horse Contest") and about all of them are good and all produced by him except for maybe three or four "Desired Effect" (which is produced by him and three others, one of them being J-Dilla), "Apenuts", & "Mokefluenza".

For Zone I'd include a "$ick of Being Rich" and "A Job Ain't Nothing But Work." And for the Count, I'd say "Dwight Spitz" and "Act Your Waist Size."

The only reason I can think of that they wouldn't meet the criteria is they just about all feature tracks where Zone/Count don't rhyme on them. And I don't mean instrumental tracks, but stuff like "Quite Buttery" (f/ Doom) or "Heavy Metal" (featuring Al S.H.I.D.).

Although I think there may be a co-production credit here and there, Kanye West- The College Dropout I think more or less fits the criteria. It's still a classic to me.

Oliver Hart (Eyedea)- How Eye Won The Write To Think- was pretty awesome and entirely produced by Eyedea.

Kno's recent solo album Death is Silent was very good, although rhyming wise he wasn't entirely on a par with the great beats on that album.

And as unfashionable as it is to like, I really enjoyed Fort Minor's The Rising Tied which was entirely produced by Mike Shinoda.

Q-tip's the renaissance was so close to fitting the bill as well.

The best imo is most likely El-p's I'll Sleep when you're dead, which is quite possibly one of the best hip hop albums I've ever heard.
