"Has there ever been a time when an emcee could do no wrong in your eyes?"
Thu Sep-26-13 03:50 PM by Nick Has a Problem..

When Black Moon released Enta Da Stage, it was solid but I didn't love it compared to the other releases around that time but when the remixes started to drop, Buckshot was my favorite emcee. Yeah its only four songs but those songs had him above every emcee to me at that time. Nas included. Who was that dude for you?

I'm not saying that Prodigy isn't nice now but Mobb Deep had a pretty good streak of dope albums and Prodigy had a dope solo at the time, but once they released "Infamy" I knew it wasn't the same Prodigy like in the past but I did like that album, it's "Amerikaz Nightmare" where they started to slip, and don't get me started on the G-Unit albums.

I'm diggin' "The Safe Is Cracked" & "HNIC 3", (haven't heard the Prodigy & Alchemist album or the new Havoc album) but those two were good albums but like you said, Prodigy isn't the same as he use to be.

2001 - BP was fire.
2002 - BP2 was too long, but lyrically he killed it on this album.
2003 - Black album was fire.
04-05 guest spots were all fire.
2006 - Kingdom Come sucked. But at the time I wrote it off and gave him a pass, because he could do no wrong in my eyes.
2007 - American Gangster was fire, and the fact that it was gave me even more reason to give him a pass for Kingdom Come a year earlier.
2009 - BP3 was eh...and that's when I stopped giving him a pass, and the "do no wrong" thing stopped for me.

just for conversation's sake.

my first post is the only "official" one.

for the record I was 4 in '91 though! just two years away from hearing enter the wu-tang in the basement of my "bad neighbor"'s house while we played the crap version of Metal Gear on NES.

in 1994 I wasn't really trying to hear that style where it was more about vibe.

when I heard this Thought verse on the High School High soundtrack I instantly thought "this dude is on some Nas type shit"

Then Illadelph dropped and it was over. BT absolutely destroys that entire album.

I remember copping Hell On Earth and Illadelph and my boy was asking me for a dub of Hell On Earth and I said "I gotta dub you this Roots too because this dude is crazy"in which my boy responded "who that dude Malik?"

Because really based off of DYWM, it was a toss up. And as ill as Malik is on Illadelph, he just can't keep up with Thought.

Every BT verse on that album is ridiculous with No Alibi taking the crown.

Meth: Tical era to his verse and hook on Liquid Swords
Common: ODIAMS to Electric Circus
Mos: Black Star to 2001?
Ghost: Forever to Pretty Toney
DOOM: Operation Doomsday to MM... Food
Pos: 96 to Grind Date

3Stacks and Black Thought, when rapping, have never been wack. 94 to the present

Meth could do no wrong all the way up until that Judgement Day video.

I don't think he ever reached his potential because for being up there with Nas, Big, etc early in his career, he still doesn't have that definitive classic album like the others.

But with that said, every Wu solo, he was the one you were checking for.

Even on Ironman and Forever. Deck somewhat took over on Forever but Meth was still people's favorite.

Then that video happened and he was just whatever. lol

the reason I only went up to Liquid Swords is because he was the definitive favorite up to that time i would argue. Once Ironman hit and (OB4CL was still marinating with 5 singles), you could "tell/feel" folks were starting to appreciate and like other members more.

Deck, Rae and Ghost owned Forever IMO and even RZA was respected on the rapping end.

add the he never had a classic LP (and I'm a BIG fan of T2) and his star just kinda waned.

Even with the no classic LP, I don't think any member (outside of maybe Ghost) can claim three as memorable and crossover songs (and videos) as "Bring The Pain", "You're All I Need", and "The Rockwilder"

Fashawn was a lyrical miracle street kid who could do the punchline rap, story rap, girl track and introspective stuff very well. Yet his beat selection, while quality, at times was a bit too static. Also he lacked in the personality department.

In steps Kendrick and Ab and do what Fash does, in some cases better, and have a much better ear for beats while have "bigger" personalities on the mic.

Also with such a glut of music released in the past few years from old and new rappers, some get lost in shuffle, Fash was one of them for me. I def think he's a very good rapper tho

>>Kokayi

A DC legend. Will be in the Mt. Rushmore of DC Hip-Hop. He's moved away from MC-ing as he does rock, EDM and other stuff but as a pure rapper and artist, he has few peers here or otherwise. I'll suggest some stuff. I got it all.

>>Jamal Bufford

Buff 1 was his former name. He and Magestik Legend are in a group called The Black Ops. Here's a free mixtape and they got a shit load of music out.

>>Magestik Legend
>>Has Solo, Has Lo???

I meant Has Lo. I always wanna hear what he's doing.

but I can see why you'd say that since he went to mostly original production on every project from that point foward.

the warm up round.. even though i can't point to a wack verse from back then.. i just wasn't a huge fan of "Jet Files" or "This Ain't No Mixtape"... after that, *everything* was hitting in my book

73. "agreed. for me it really started with Pilot Talk"

His quality and consistency is ridiculoid:
Pilot Talk
Pilot Talk II
Covert Coup w/ Alchemist
Return To The Winners Circle
Weekend @ Burnies
Verde Terrace
The EP w/ Styles
Stoned Emmaculate
Cigarette Boats EP w/ Harry Fraud
3 Piece Suite EP w/ Terrace Martin
New Jet City
Bales w/ Roddy

Rapped along side Snoop, Jay Electronica, Stalley, Fiend, Freddie Gibbs, Prodigy, Big KRIT, Wiz, Styles P, Wale, Rick Ross, and Juvenile... and he sounds comfortable (not forced) with all of them

a BUNCH of different artists and a BUNCH of different styles... it's a shame more people aren't taking note... but it even took me a while "get" his rhyme schemes and slick lines.. but his prolificness and consistency is really unmatched (ever, right??).. i've seen prolific MCs and i've seen consistent MCs.. but never quite like the run he's on.. and as hard as it is for me to wrap my head around, i don't see it stopping any time soon.. shit's nuts.

There's very little of their material that I don't check for.
