when faced off with the Killah/ stood still a whole river chilled, looked up it got dark, that's when Rza started to build!

same thing i heard Coltrane talkin about, around the 3:40 mark:

John C.- u can't always make out every note he spits out the horn. even when it aint "in tune", it's still in tune with the music that surrounds him.

it's scientific, but it aint the typa shit u gonna learn in the classroom.

it's the epitome of the word ABSTRACT, and the mind bending, perception altering properties that flow thruough their blood (both JC and Ghost's) and out their instruments are transferred to the tuned in listener.

... and the emotions... don't even get me started on the emotional parallels. i guess i can't really sit here and try to interpret what emotions the dude was feeling, i just know how it makes me feel. and for me, these two often take me to the same- or very similar- space.

what ghost album do u think is most similar to Giant Steps?

what would you say was ghost's transition in style, a la trane's progression from post bop to avant garde/free?

would Rae be Pharoah?

is Action Bronson Archie Shepp?

RZA is the classic quartet?

would you say SC is ghost's Love Supreme? (THEY BOTH HAVE THE WORD SUPREME *MIND BLOWN*)

what trane album reminds you of 12 reasons to die?

would you say that ghost expresses his complex spiritualty in the same way trane did?

all good tho.

clearly the transition was from the first Wu album to the Iron Man album, then evolving further by the release of the Double CD, culminating in the classic among classics that is Supreme Clientele. The GFK has been in full flight ever since (with a few minor spells of turbulence).
if u were listening, this would be obvious to u, but ur more interested in trying to be funny and cute and... probably clever :/
u wanna sarcastically try to make direct comparisons between every song, every album?
i already gave a couple examples of the musical parallels, but it's much more of a spiritual, emotional parallel, and the spontaneous combustion they create musically, which is impossible (probably even for them) to duplicate.

maybe the typa mufucka u are just doesn't allow u to be able to relate to Ghost. that's understandable.

first, im more likely to compare producers to jazzmen, not mc's (i made a brick of a post comparing dilla to trane & madlib to miles, for example)

if i was gonna use MCs id use someone who has more stylistic shifts & took more risks than GFK did, someone like Mos maybe

let me use the "supreme" joke above to illustrate...here's Trane talking about LOVE supreme, spiritual enlightenment & expression in praise of thd Most High...here's Ghost on SC basically detailing a bunch of worldly shit, a raw album (a throwback in a way, while love supreme was imo a more unique & truly creative expression of where Trane was in his spiritual quest) full of bragging, boasting etc

think about the word "Love" vs the word "Clientele" ... depending on how you view things these are two very very different things

GFK's purpose on the mic is self-aggrandizement (as w/ most MCs) but Trane's purpose was praising the Creator & including others in this praise

now i WILL agree that both are very passionate "players" & there *is* a lot of emotion in GFKs style, so i can see why you would make the comparison, i just don't think as artists they are comparable bc i dont think their music shares a purpose really

again, start comparin Trane to Dilla & ill be all over it but i just dont see this one

... cuz your description of SC and Ghost in general seems rather myopic. ur missing out on, or overlooking, a lot of content.

>first, im more likely to compare producers to jazzmen, not
>mc's (i made a brick of a post comparing dilla to trane &
>madlib to miles, for example)

ok, that's your own personal approach. i respect that, but again, the myopicity (is that a word? lol).

>if i was gonna use MCs id use someone who has more stylistic
>shifts & took more risks than GFK did, someone like Mos maybe

see, this is how i know u really don't know shit about Ghost...
more risks and stylistic shifts??? the nigga basically cried on "I Can't Go To Sleep"... and how many hardcore, gangsta type rappers in the 90s would call themselves "the Babyface of rap"? how many rappers could tell the most vivid, surreal yet meticulous stories about drug deals and robberies and also take you on an Underwater odyssey with mermaids and Spongebob cameos?

>let me use the "supreme" joke above to illustrate...here's
>Trane talking about LOVE supreme, spiritual enlightenment &
>expression in praise of thd Most High...here's Ghost on SC
>basically detailing a bunch of worldly shit, a raw album (a
>throwback in a way, while love supreme was imo a more unique &
>truly creative expression of where Trane was in his spiritual
>quest) full of bragging, boasting etc

i mean, of course there's gonna be boasting- its fuckin hip hop! but how can someone who appreciates John C let all the other subtleties and God-core narratives of GFK escape you?

"Irons Theme": Wu Tang Clan.... Wu Tang Clan and Ironman... lead us to the promised land... and we will build upon this land, until we free all Black man... Iron man... lead us to the promise land... teach us how to raise our fam... trough love and economic plan,, livin out Allah God's plan.

"The Splash": ....they put our name in the sky, see baby we 'bout it, this is all us, Adam n Eve if u want, this time we respect God's word from the jump."

"One": Ayo the devil planted fear inside the Black babies/ 50 cent saodas in the hood they gone crazy/ dead bird placed on the shelf, we eatin cold cuts/ fast from the hog yall and grow up!"

"I Can't Go To Sleep": the whole damn verse.

"Purified Thoughts": man this verse is bone chilling. i'm done explaining.

please... GO SOMEWHERE, SIT YOUR ASS DOWN AND ***LISTEN*** TO SOME GHOST before u say anything else.

"...crisp dollar billin/ catch me in a little hut in Benin, village style feedin the children/ big pots of jasmine tea with Mandela/ Africans cheerin me on like Coachella: "Ghostface Bumaye!"

man i'm ova here with this shit playin in the background amped the fuck up... GHOST IS THE FUCKIN G.O.A.T.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

>think about the word "Love" vs the word "Clientele" ...
>depending on how you view things these are two very very
>different things

and just to be clear, you're the one who's setting these 2 albums aside for comparison, which was never my intent.

>GFK's purpose on the mic is self-aggrandizement (as w/ most
>MCs) but Trane's purpose was praising the Creator & including
>others in this praise

foolishness! which i've already addressed above.

>again, start comparin Trane to Dilla & ill be all over it but
>i just dont see this one

i'm all good with 'agreeing to disagree', but your opinion just seems misinformed.

just like most of my debates corcerning Joey Badass, the crux of our disagreement has more to do with people not really listening than anything else.
