Here are two songs (the album sounds more like Pick It Up than Never Too Much.) and the rest is on itunes right now for preview.
of course I'm not gonna pin this (dont pin it!) but I do hope yall dig it. we put a lot of work into it and there are things that will be picked up with multiple listens.

we did everything we could to distract people from the fact that he isn't there. i'd like to say it worked.
You & What Army was actually about us missing ilyas in a way tho. i make reference to him on like 2-3 songs. him not being around, our label falling apart, our 'team' bowing out the game, management woes AND a member of the group leaving? you name something that could go wrong and it went wrong...
i feel like the one sentence review of that record could be "what happened to the other dude?" because literally NOBODY gave that shit a chance. we squeezed 3 videos, 2 international tours and 2 national tours out of that shit and literally NOBODY cared about it as a record. it seems like nobody took it seriously and the people who did honestly think its one of our best projects.
if i had to pick i'd say YAWA & Sandwich Shop are my favorite TM records. but then again i like underdogs and before YAWA, the bridge was my favorite. its too easy to like BKNATI or ML because well thats what you supposed to like, they got big reviews and videos and press but the projects between those are where hte real stories about how hard it was to even get to the next record was
YAWA could have very well been the last tanya morgan record ever and in all honesty it almost was...
give it a shot. trust me. don't think about ilyas not being there, listen to us cope in the wake of his departure. you'll hear it differently, i swear.

I got all yall shit...but I straight sat YAWA out. I listened to it once and put it away...like, I didn't even try to like it. Before I even listened I was like "these niggas prolly trying to front like Ilyas being gone don't matter"...which makes what you said about you two coping with him being gone even more sad on my part, cuz I didn't even HEAR any of that in the album. Plus it was coming off Brooklynati (group-wise), which was a MONSTER (We Fly has to be in my top 3 TM songs...props to you on that Short Dogg homage on that joint). YAWA just never had a real chance with me. Never thought it was in any way as nuanced as you explained. I guess that's why you have to LISTEN to shit. Lemme get home and settle down with the good headphones and I'm on it.

he left the group on the intro to YAWA. that was the chapter closing. we didn't keep it away from people. we let it happen on the intro to the album. of course there were SEVERAL long private conversations but we literally let him say goodbye to everybody because he didn't wanna be an active member anymore.
bruh. that shit was beyond hard to deal with because it wasn't some beef or some other shit, it was just a dude waking up one day deciding he just didn't feel like that was him anymore you know? he was my writing partner. every song we'd be battling, going at each other. we had this silent competition that nobody else got to see. never 2ndary and morgan blu come to mind specifically. we would call each other like 'yeah nigga you hear my verse yet? may have to rewrite your shit'. sparring partners man. it made me better and i miss it. you can hear it all over YAWA.
Brooklynati was a great album but arguably it had a blueprint. it was a better, stronger, faster Moonligthing. after that album everything changed, literally everything. we just went into YAWA trying to figure out how to make an album without ilyas and not in the ironic Sandwich shop, niggas that just are always around each other end up recording together kinda way but in the 'what the hell is our group as a duo' kinda way. its a lean record and it moves fast. give it a go man

but do you mind articulating a bit better why it 'blows'? do you feel like its a bad song overall or bad for what you expect of a TM song to be?
the homeboy sandman record just simply didn't fit the vibe of the record. there are like 3-4 songs that just were kinda not working for the record. there is one joint thats a remake of EPMD "you had too much to drink" on some electronica tip (it sounds bad, its very bad. the rhymes are dope, the beat is dope, together its bad. we were trying to put a dope spin on a bad song, ended up making a bad song) we have this other song that sounds like mobb deep meets slum village that isn't bad just is a bit too dark and moody and weird. and then the homebody sandman song. its not a bad song. the hook is kinda stagnant tho. its the best of the bad songs, just didn't fit the record.

Upon Soul is my absolute shit...cant stop playing that one. For Real, All Em, Eulogy and The Vehicle are my favorites. Whatever that recurring beat with church organ sound...like a snippet that Don raps over twice and Von over once, I think....fire. The guys sound like they're in a good place. Just a nice, clean vibe. Good shit, fellas.

6th played us that beat during like the first rubber souls session and we fell in love with it. che grand was with us at the time we heard it and he fell in love with it to, then 6th decided that he didn't want to make it a song on the album
me and von decided that if it wasnt gonna go on rubber souls it would go on something else but towards the end of the sessions we convinced 6th to make it a recurring interlude
we perform it live as one song tho. so all is not lost.
Yeah you're thinking of "I ain't playin." When it came to make bonus tracks I knew how much the guys loved that beat so we recorded long after the album was done and included it as a bonus.
As far as the interlude. Always loved it. And that's ill you picked up the Primo thing cause that's EXACTLY what it is.
Reason it couldn't be a full song was due to *ahem* sample issues. I'll leave it at that.

It just didn't fit the vibe of the album. I thought maybe it was something I was missing...so I kept trying to find the angle. "Cusack" felt like a two part vibe to me. Everything up to and including "December 27th" was kinda somber....dope, but somber. From "Breathe" (favorite song on the album) on, it was like an awakening....like he snapped out of it and starting living again. I still couldn't understand how "Championship Vinyl" fit, doe.

If I remember correctly the record store In High Fidelity was called "Championship Vinyl". Thats where John Cusack and Jack Black (who were music snobs in the movie) worked at. Everybody on the song is playing the role of a music snob to some degree, trying to put somebody, probably a chick onto good music. (I THINK, I just did a chorus lol).

(youve gotta pardon me. i haven't played the lp in YEARS (too personal) and i lost my copy of the movie shortly after the album was done (tragic))
yeah so the album is based on high fidelity and the movie centered around a dude who owned a record store named championship vinyl. the store had an owner and two employees and a host of guys who just hung out in the store. which was the perfect opportunity to work a TM song into the album.
von plays the demure guy and ilyas plays the jack black character. im jon cusack of course thats why von was rapping about trying to get with a chick and ilyas was just kinda being indignant. , elucid, jerm and spec just were the guys who hung out in the record store or the music snobs. the record store scenes were where you'd get a bit of a comedic break from the love story. hanging out with the boys and shit
as far as the flow of the album it follows the movie up until 'good'. like in the movie he ends up with laura but in my life, well my story doesn't have an end yet so it just ended with me looking for a leading lady. the songs after that were all bonus songs. they were intended to be the soundtrack to the movie. those are the ones that didn't really fit they just kinda described the mood with no heavy narrative
the skits between songs and narration are direct pull quotes and i tried not to take liberties with the chronology of the movie.
monologue laura's song (sets up the album, top 5 breakup list skit) top 5 breakups (skit about how laura was actually the most important breakup) championship vinyl (skit at the end from the scene where he fantasizes about kickin Ian's ass (laura's new BF)) ian's song (skit at the end about him realizing that ian was their old neighbor) shake it easy (skit at the end about when he fucks lisa bonet's character) love junkie (skit at the end about laura's dad dying) december 27 breathe (skit at the end about realizing he never committed) i see you (skit at the end about him getting back with laura) good (skit at the end where he finally asks laura to marry him) leading lady (skit at the end from end of movie)

*i was typing out the skits and tracklist to explain something but i forgot what. oh well. yeah everything fit tho. nothing was last minute or unplanned. it was all actually very meticulously planned
the only error on the album was love junkie because i tried to cast U-N-I as the group the "Kinky Wizards" from the movie and they didn't want to do the song. i then asked harlems cash and daytona to do it but daytona turned it down and i just rocked with harlems cash to get the song done.
this album was my grudge. lol
