How many albums of present time have a better average than that? I can't name too many rap albums that I like more than 8 songs on released post 2000. I'm talking major and independent releases. I can dig if Push ain't your cup of tea though.

getting a second job and just generally wanting to relax when I'm home got me off being excited about reviewing music for the most part, which in turn led to me not really listening to anything at all. I haven't heard Old yet, or most other things.
So, I kind of cheated and made a Recently Added playlist in iTunes for the last 3 months, and I'm just gonna grab what stands out (as long as I've listened to it, so no HAIM).
A$AP Ferg - Trap Lord Ace Hood - Trials & Tribulations (in my top 5 overall) Braids - Flourish // Perish (most listened to album of the year other than Run the Jewels) Curren$y & Young Roddy - #Bales
DJ Shadow - The Music of Grand Theft Auto V: The Score (Shadow mixes the stems from Woody Jackson, Tangerine Dream, and Gangrene into the best DJ Shadow album since Private Press)
Drake - Nothing Was the Same John Mayer - Paradise Valley (this is a profoundly boring album, but it hit a right spot at the right time) Joker - Sega Joker Drive Juicy J - Stay Trippy Main Attrakionz - Jeffro EP Mayer Hawthorne - Where Does This Door Go?
Pusha T - My Name Is My Name 2 Chainz - BOATS II: #METIME (man did my opinion on this album turn around from my first listen)
There's 321 items in this playlist and I've heard maybe 10% of them. I was one of the first on the Weeknd hype train and haven't given his album even one spin. Just slippin' every day.
Whittle it down to a roughly ranked top 5:
Ace Hood - Trials & Tribulations Braids - Flourish // Perish Mayer Hawthorne - Where Does This Door Go? Pusha T - My Name Is My Name Drake - Nothing Was the Same
>DJ Shadow - The Music of Grand Theft Auto V: The Score (Shadow >mixes the stems from Woody Jackson, Tangerine Dream, and >Gangrene into the best DJ Shadow album since Private Press)

In case you haven't played, there's an ambient soundtrack in the game depending on which character you are, where you're at in the world and what you're doing/how high your wanted level is. DJ Shadow was given all of these stems and asked to make something coherent out of them. He did exactly that.
Volume 2: The Score GTAV is the first entry in the series to feature a dynamic original score composed and engineered to be completely responsive to the player’s actions within both missions and open world gameplay. The score was composed in a one-time collaboration between a team of legendary producers and composers including vanguard German electronic band Tangerine Dream, Woody Jackson (Red Dead Redemption, L.A. Noire) and renowned hip-hop producers The Alchemist and Oh No. For The Music of Grand Theft Auto V: Volume 2, the stems of the game’s interactive score are layered, mixed and arranged into an album of songs by acclaimed producer and DJ, DJ Shadow.
