"Black female artists who should have made a Rock album?"


          

i was thinking about this in a discussion about Chaka Khan and Patti Labelle's voices and thinking of how they each could have rocked out.

who else comes to mind where a rock project would have been something else to hear.

When I listen to Janet's albums they all got that pop rock vibe to them with two to three r&b songs but the rest seemed like rock tunes to me.

I think Janet secretly wanted to do what Madonna was doing for mad years but didn't want to seem like a trend follower even though she followed r&b trends all the time.

Her distinct but mediocre vocals and tendency to go for the big angry synth songs makes me think she would translate well, probably a solid punk/hard rock singer...definitely nothing bluesy requiring more vocal tricks/soul like da White Stripes.

...some years ago. That song is ass and so was the band but she sounded perfectly fine in that context.
