"so, Justin Timberlake plays a '60s folksinger in new Coens film"

trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mi94HrlZvtY

apparently his main song is a version of 500 Miles, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwnNdqpCF8Q, as he's not the main character.

Dunno how that will be but I'd assume pretty good... certainly the tune playing over the trailer is frigging great.

Looks like something I'll have to see, especially having read Mayor of McDougal St and Positively 4th St in the past year or so!

The scene where the guy is asking for his royalties is apparently classic Moe Asch.

I'd rather hear some rare gems unearthed, but contemporary performers singing Revival classics could be interesting. Could just as easily suck.

I thought the Coen-bros (and T-bone for that matter) were cooler than that. Of course, dude can still have great taste regardless of how lame his band is-Bono has a great taste in music for example and yet makes the worst crap himself so it really doesn't matter...

I would think Someone like Tom Paxton would have been able to do a fine job while actually being able to offer first-person insight. He could probably use the cash as well.

...couldn't give two shits about the soundtrack. T-Bone Burnett is over-rated and hasn't put together a decent soundtrack since The Ladykillers.

He's managed to dig up some pretty authentic talent when mining for gems in the past - Norman Blake, Tim Eriksen, Riley Baugus. Of course these guys appear on the marquee well below Allison Krauss or even Sting, but whatever.

He's got a ton of material to choose from here so hopefully it's not all bobby and Joanie. The fact that they've got JT singing a Hedy West song (albeit a well-covered one) may be a good sign.
